My name is Nick and this is my 1988 BMW 528 E28.

a little about the car and myself. i bought the car for a whopping 500 bucks from a guy who owned a bmw car dealership. he got it in a trade from an elderly man about 2 years before i bought it. he said it wasn't sure if it ran anymore but he did drive it for about a month after the trade. and it sat for the next following 2 year. its a Super ETA with well over 200k miles. Here is the day i bought the car in all its glory, a mess but i knew it could become something.

Before moving to florida a week after i bought the car i had to do some cleaning and i checked the brakes along with coolant and oil and tires. the tires were shot and dry rotted, oil was black, coolant was good, and it needed rear brakes. so i did the brakes because i was to broke at the time to do oil, coolant, or buy new tires.

Then i loaded up and moved to florida with hopes and prayers that it wouldn't break down or overheat or anything cause i only had it on the road for 2 days before i left haha.

the only thing i purchased before florida was a roof rack. and well the actual poles i didn't buy SO i improvised and used PVC pipe and painted it black haha it didn't old anything so it didn't last long. and i spray painted any obvious rust.

i had a job lined up and i ***** it so i quit after 3 days haha. i survived off of my savings account and E28 money so nothing happened with the car until i could get another job while going to school. after finding a job 2 months later i had very little income so nothing major could happen. i bought new control arms because mine were shot and rattled every time i hit a bump so i replaced them.along with took off my destroyed US front bumper. and now some pics.

my roommate thought it'd be funny to vandalize my car. but he is a little slow and did it backwards. lol
     photo 2012-11-15_18-54-54_707.jpg

i then took it to a mud bogging event and was the only car out there. but i was super cool cause i only had one wiper and i painted my grill black.

    and i washed it.

i also relocated my blinkers behind my grill

i took apart my cluster to try and fix my rpm tach. figured out the problem BUT money was once again an issue so i put it back still broken haha.

and the one wiper didn't work at all so i put both of them back on.
     photo 2013-03-24_15-22-16_149.jpg

then i was once again cool and parked next to a maserati, R8, and M3. only for like 5 mins though
     photo 2013-03-30_21-33-27_950.jpg

i then tucked my rear bumper and found some awesome cancer.

I then tried to diagnose a coolant leak and found out the problem very quickly haha. Since it was my daily i had to find a replacement asap. so i replaced my reservoir with one from an E21.

     photo IMG_20130506_155619_731.jpg

after that i ordered more parts to finally give it a tune-up and oil change.

     photo IMG_20130507_192044_740.jpg

and my old plugs and distributor cap and rotor were pretty bad

couple months later i bought new wheels off craigslist and new tires for the wheels. luckily for me two wheels were slightly bent, and my lugs were to long and they were hitting my parking brake assembly in my rear axle.

I didn't learn the rims were bent until i put new tires on them of course.

after getting the tires mounted and before putting them on i cut springs off the front cause my suspension was shot anyway.

i continued to drive around on the stock wheels until i had money to either fix my wheels or source new ones. about a month later i drove down to West Palm Beach for Formula Drift when i got a flat tire.
     photo IMG_20130602_144026_421.jpg

thats when i decided to either buy new tires for my stock wheels OR find something for cheap. so i found something i liked for an amazing price and i loved the way it looked.

then my sunroof started leaking so i tried to unclog the drains for it and well my method didn't really work.

after that the car started running worse and randomly stalling out and stopping SO i bought a new daily and decided it was time i drove the E28 home and put it away for a while.

        nice!

        500 bucks for this? oookay...

why are 28s so cheap in America?

here in Germany you would pay about 1,5k for something like this... and we should have plenty of them...but hell no...

So after about a month of planning i finally decided to purchase a new daily rather then drop all that money into my bmw. so i drove home to NJ on Friday and was back in FL sunday. after about 8 hours into the trip back to jersey i decided to let my friend drive so i could sleep some. and i wake up to a loud bang and my friend saying oh Sh*t oh Sh*t. He hit a trucks blown tire that was left in the middle of the interstate. so we pulled over to inspect it.
(thats my friend under the car)
           photo IMG_8991.jpg
           photo IMG_8986.jpg
so upon inspection we discovered that my front valance was banged up and destroyed by the tire and my exhaust was ripped out and and broke so i placed the exhaust in a decent position so it would drag or anything even though it was obnoxiously loud and my valance i pulled out the best i could to normal.

since i was already stopped. PHOTO OP!
           photo 999751_10151870417010575_573664237_n-1.jpg

so another 6 hours of obnoxious exhaust i finally made it home.

the car made it for 9 months of driving to FL, as a daily driver there and another 1100 mile journey back to NJ without any major issues or concerns. by far the best 500 bucks I've ever spent and its officially the only car I've owned this long haha. so i left it in NJ until i finished school and just drove the new daily.

Left like this for 5 months.

           photo IMG_9025.jpg

and this is the new Daily.

Also as we all know no car guy can only have one car.......or two. so i bought a third one for another whopping 500 bucks.

               photo IMG_0026.jpg

and since i just graduated school I'm finally home with a job lined up so this is were the E28 build really begins, slowly yes. BUT its my baby. and ill keep updating as much as possible.

went outside today and cleaned out the car from the last time i drove it back to jersey about 6 months ago. this 7 degree weather is terrible and hopefully this weekend i begin the tear down for the rebuild.

                            small update

i started taking apart my E28 today. the goal is to completely strip it down, fix any rust, engine/drivetrain swap, all new suspension. Its a project that i know won't be quick and easy but its defiantly something i plan on doing and getting done.

just a small update.i ordered some more parts that i found and couldn't pass up. i haven't really worked on the car lately due to the fact that i started a new job and anytime i have off i spend trying to fix my mk2 to be road worthy. but I'm still slowly pulling apart my engine and marking every wire and taking my time.

                              bought new blinkers.

and placed them in my new front valance.
