I had been kicking around the idea of doing gold faces, hadn't considered white though!Originally posted by SliPsY View PostI think painting the faces white would look pretty fresh.
Also this is the first ever real picture taken of my car. Snapped by a dude at Cars and Coffee. It's weird that you think it won't make a difference until you actually see one.

Thanks dude! What do you drive? I don't think I'm in Charlotte Motorists but I'm in NC/SC Car Parts, the wheels group, the cars and coffee group, and raleigh meets.Originally posted by bigwhite07 View PostI recognize this car, you're on the Charlotte Motorists club on Facebook right? Awesome car man, love the current wheels. They fit the car so nicely, plus it's cool to see something cool in North Carolina haha.

This is what the direct rear shot looks like right now. I've had some people tell me to lose the OEM spoiler. Not sure what I think.

Thanks! Appreciate it. I've been following your build since you got the car actually. With respect to color: Kind of like those 'eggshell' colors people deliberate endlessly over when choosing colors for their walls? Haha.Originally posted by Oh Damn, it's Sam View PostNever expected to see one of these looking decent!
With the direction you seem to be going, I'd ditch the spoiler.
I kind of wonder whether a warm white or a cream might look good on the wheel faces. White on blue's pretty played, but shit, so is gold on blue, thanks to all the Subietards.
I know a guy who can powdercoat the wheels so the entire fucking things look like they're gold plated. Tempting, but ultimately not ballsy enough to pull that off lol.
Time for the stickers to go as well. I put them on after Sowo when the car was stock as a way of identifying with the car scene because otherwise it would look like I just borrowed my mom's car or something.

I couldn't remember which group you're on, but I recognize the car with the Manarays on it from Facebook somewhere. I have a RHD AE86 coupe, and a 1988 10TH Anniversary Editon RX7 as well.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostThanks dude! What do you drive? Ha! I'm flattered. ThanksOriginally posted by rightfullrudder View PostThanks! Appreciate it. I've been following your build since you got the car actually.
That's what I was thinking, kind of eggshell. I saw a set of RSs a while back that were eggshell with gold bolts, and they looked just phenomenal. Blue on pure white can look kind of "race-y," which doesn't seem to be where you're going, but warm the color up a bit, and it might work.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostWith respect to color: Kind of like those 'eggshell' colors people deliberate endlessly over when choosing colors for their walls? Since you mention gold, back in the day I saw a set of Velox something-or-anothers powdercoated in the flaky flat gold that Tein top hats used to come in... lawdy lawd, reekris christ, they looked fly. No idea how that finish was achieved, but I've never seen anything like it.
Good deal, I was hoping you'd say that. With the Shallens and all the low you're working on, I don't think you're going to have to worry about it getting confused with the soccerpracticemobile much longer.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostTime for the stickers to go as well. To be honest, the full gold was kind of appealing initially, especially because my wheels are 2 piece and welded and the clear on the lips is beginning to deteriorate. Stripping them without splitting them would be a monstrous pain in the ass. I'd have to be literally on the ground to not look like a dick with full gold wheels lol.Originally posted by Oh Damn, it's Sam View PostThat's what I was thinking, kind of eggshell. Now, I'm a wheel noob but I think gold hardware would be doable. I don't know where I would find it, the bolts have wide flat faces with a 4mm hex key pattern I think. I'll do more research on the eggshell colors. Would this be just for the spokes, or for everything but the lips? Shallens are pretty weird.
Initially the car had a roof rack and G35 Rays in addition to the stickers if you read from the beginning, but the 'sporty' look didn't really suit it IMO. VIP makes more sense because it's so friggin huge. The only sticker that'll stay is my banner because I think "ratchet" is funny plus it's the dapper font.Good deal, I was hoping you'd say that. What's wrong with looking like a dick? Worst case scenario, you could always have your stock bolts electroplated. That's all gold bolts are anyway, electroplated steel. You might even be able to find a DIY kit - I know there are easy DIY ways to do copper and nickel plating, there might be for gold as well.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostNow, I'm a wheel noob but I think gold hardware would be doable. I'd probably just do the spokes, since the area around the bolts "feels" like it belongs to the lip. I don't know if that makes sense or not.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostI'll do more research on the eggshell colors. Would this be just for the spokes, or for everything but the lips? I liked the initial phase a lot, with the G35s and particularly the Manarays, but I do think the direction you're moving in now fits the car really well. Those crazys in Thailand are doing a lot with the FWD Japanese midsize platforms these days, doing some pretty interesting VIP-style builds, and it's surprising how well they pull it off. I, for one, am hoping to see some of that style make its way to our shores, since the VIP way has gotten kind of bogged down in the same three platforms, with a lot of lovely, but similar builds. Seems like some new blood is needed, at least here in Jesus's Own United States.Originally posted by rightfullrudder View PostInitially the car had a roof rack and G35 Rays in addition to the stickers if you read from the beginning, but the 'sporty' look didn't really suit it IMO.
