  • Another E36 build

    IMG_20160316_173654~01 by

    This is my third e36, first one was a 92 318, second a 91 318is and a few months ago I got a 93 325.
The engine is pre vanos, so must be a 91 or 92 not sure about the mileage but supposedly its less than the car.

its been in a ditch not to long ago, but its repaired and the wheels have been adjusted.

I did a comp test cus it feels a bit sluggish on low revs

got good comp on nr 1,2, 4 and 5. 3 is dead and 6 is dying. but Its ok as I was planing on rebuilding the engine anyway.

changed the plugs while I had them out

    To do list.
mostly in the the right order

    Done
    Change plugs
    comp test
get some winter rims and tires
    fix heater fan
fix fuel pump... hope that's the last thing to break for a while
    fix right headlight (wires) Fuse..
Paint right front fender calopso red
    get hydro handbreak and install
    wield diff
slam it kinda done. needs more low still

    First things on the list

    better steering angle
    fix reverse light
figure out whats draining the battery (new alternator? hope not.)
Widen wheels to something that looks good with 195\205 wheels stretched
    valves and springs
    strip interior
    bucket seats

    More stuff
    Get 4 (or 8) e46 (possibly) 17* steel wheels
    Widen arches
Fix ABS (no idea why its not working but its more fun so Ill leave it as long as possible)
    Turbo
    +++

    still working on the list.

Please paint it in the stock color.
Also I've got some AC Schnitzer type1 rennesport that i could sell to you, I live in Faroe Island but once a month i fly to Stavanger and sail from Tananger, we have a Agency in Stavanger. I could ask them to hold the wheels for you (not 100% sure that they are willing to do that) So shipping would be free to Stavanger.

Zic Im not to fond of calypsorot, and the paint is pretty bad on this one. but I might paint it piano black later on.
I might be Interested in those AC Schnitzers closer to summer. for now all my spare money is going into a bike project.

PO had removed the inner fenders to fit 19". so it had filled with crap...
cleaned it out, put some rust oil on the few spots that needed it and fitted the inner fenders again

The heater fan had been crushed when the car crashed, and to change the bit that was broken Id have to dismantle a lot of the interior to get out the heater radiator thingy..
So simple solution, cut the bit I needed from a 316 at the junkyard and gaffa taped it in place.

I'd admit its now the correct way to do it, but I'll be able to see where I'm going, and it works perfectly

Winter finally came. And it hit hard..

Had some fun days drifting around every corner I came to
will upload some videos at some point.

This is what it looked like this morning.

Backed the car out and started cleaning off the snow, when suddenly it died..
At first I thought its just that its cold and went to start it up again.
the engine coughed to life and died again..

hmm. Ok, does it get fuel? popped the hood, and unplugged the fuel line. Nothing..
does the fuel pump run? No, just a click..

then i remembered, Id almost emptied the tank the day before. had to borrow fuel money because I hadn't got my paycheck. And with all the drifting I've been doing lately I bet the fuel pump is clogged with gunk that's been sloshed up from the tank..

That's what I hope at least. It went dark and really cold outside. so I had to stop for today

Looks like the fuel pump is dead.
At first it tricked me because there is no power to the pump with the key on, but when the starter is turning it lights up my test light. seems a bit strange to me. but the only other time I worked on electronic stuff was on my Niva.. and thats a lot simpler

I got the fuelpump out and had a look at it. Its dead as a dodo..
I'll post picures tomorow when I have it installed and working.

On an other note, my search for rims has moved forward. Still have no money though..

What I want is a sett of banded 17s. Like this

                Polished lips and all!
So Ive found out that the e46 has 17s with the right ET as winter tires.

                It'll look killer

Too bad you weren't about a month sooner. I just sold a set of e46 steelies. Goodluck finding them. Once winter is up you might see a few pop up on CL as guys go back to their summer setups

That's what I'm hoping for. winter tires are mandatory here. so there should be a lot of them around.
shipping to Norway would probably be pretty expensive anyway :P

did you wield yours yourself? I'm trying to figure out how to do it.
                    something like this maybe

Of course I'd filled the tank completely right before the fuel pump died, so I spilled a lot getting it out.

threw away the bad one and installed a cheapo Biltema pump. original part costs about 3600kr and this one was 550kr.

The beemer fired up and semes to work well, in fact I think the car feels a bitt more willing,
but that might also be because I had to drive my dad's spare car. a 1.6l opel something

Fixed the right headlight. turns out I'd been looking at the wrong fuses ..
Allways check fuses before searching for broken wires!
                          lesson learned I guess.

Got some paint for the right fender, So now Im waiting for good painting weather

Sooooo, I just hit what felt like an iceberg, and managed to rip off this

One of the blue lines broke, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.
Anyone know what those lines do?
Im thinking it might be some emissions stuff?

Oh. And it looks like this is turning into a drift build
