  • Mx5 Eunos

    Hi Guys

I had a time attack ready s14a for competing in 2014 but due to needing to buy a house and too much money tied up in that i had too sell it for parts. But i couldn't live without a car so bought a cheap run around (or slide around) 1990 Mk1 1.6 Eunos MX5 imported in 2006.

The car came with these mods

    - Gash Wheels
    - Gash black bonnet and boot
    - RSR manifold and decat
    - Rear roll bar / rear cage fitted
    - Stripped Boot
    - Apexi Air Filter
    - Half Lockwood Dials
    - R Package front Li
    - R package Rear Lip
    - LED sidelights
    - Green stuff pads all round
    - GAB shocks and suspension

The original problems with the car was

    - No fan Switch
    - Split bottom radiator hose
    - Terrible Brakes
    - Wheels and bonnet and boot
    - All dials in wrong place
    - Dodgy thermostat

i set about changing the dials positions back to normal so temperature read ok and tacho read ok.

Ordered a new fan switch, Thermostat, Rad fluid, Fully Synthetic Oil, Oil filter

Fitted the new fan switch and thermostat but fan still doesn't come on, I ground the switch and fan works that shows the relay works. All wiring is ok and the switch is brand new.

Going to change oil this weekend as don't know last time it was done

replaced the LED sidelights with amber ones

here is how sorry for its self it looked

    my plan is to get

    - 14" banded steels with stretch tyres
    - coilovers and get it so low its pulling cats eyes out haha
    - some bozo style exhaust tip
    - weld diff or get a 1.8 diff.
    - Red hard top
    - oh and get rid of the gash bonnet boot and wheels
    - get some lazy eyes or do it DIY and get a bubble gear shifter as the one its got is gash haha

it goes sideways in the wet but won't budge in the dry really due to shitty 1.6 viscous diff.

Then after about a week or so got some new wheels to replace the gashnes. Team dynamics 1.2 with 3 brand new tyres and 1 part worn. In great condition, no curbing or marks at all. they are gloss black.

a photograph a friend did for me before it was lowered

Still the ride height is terrible but below will tell you how i went low.

got some race land coil overs 2 months old off of someone on mx5oc club, got them fitted today. heres the story

This was a brand new blade, trying to get the top mount of the old suspension and wasn't working so stupidly decided to cut the spring (while its was still compressed), i had no mask or goggles on and cut through the old spring, it then snapped the rotating blade and hit me in the face. lucky wasn't any worse. the blade was brand new

This was the little scratched it causes. i was shaking though. never again, stupid idea haha.

Got them on and now riding low

Riding pretty much on the bump stops there about 1-2mm gap i think. or hope haha

its a low as i want it for now. exhaust is 9mm off the floor and rear brace 22mm so going to bin the rear brace as it probably doing fuck all and relocate the exhaust higher. if i find a problem with bump stops i will just cut them down.
It scrapes coming off a flat drive with a drop down curb. its going to be fun to drive. hahaha

diff is getting welded in a few weeks ready for first drift day in january. Also getting a Boso exhaust made up with an external oil cooler just because boss.

Heres some pictures now rolling on race land coil overs. You can see its pretty low. i took out the extra springs to get it properly low

Driving the car round its ridiculous low, It scrapes on a flat road. The exhaust now has a 4inch flat spot and still scrapes so will have to either cut it and weld in a pipe higher up or just be a man a deal with a blowing exhaust.

Got my first drift day in 3 weeks time so just going to get the diff welded up by then and get some part worn tyres.

Today i tinted my headlights with yellow wrap took best part of half an hour but I'm happy with it. Cheap mods FTW.
