But that's for another day, will start updating that build thread whenever I finish building the golf's new engine.

Only update I have is that the engine is now nice and clean with most of the parts stripped off it. I've just ordered £250 worth of basic parts so will update when they all arrive!

    Oh and new steering wheel...

Lots of parts been arriving for this rebuild!

And there is loads more to come still.

In the mean time I've completely stripped the engine down and I'm working on the rocker cover... It's a bit manky:

Sorry for the crap photos i've lost my card reader for my camera so i've resorted for phone pics + facebook & instagram lol.

                Thanks everyone, few more updates.

Got the engine stripped down a bit more and cleaned/painted just need to do the sump next.

Hoping this will be ready to go in by the end of the week, I'm replacing the piston rings tomorrow along with a few bearings then it's basically time to build it back up with all the new parts.

Some progress photos... again sorry for poor quality.

I really wanted to try gold with the rocker cover, we'll see how it looks when it's in the car I could end up changing it. Here's it bolted on the gti head:

More photos to follow as I build it back up.

Starting to look like an engine again.

Just need to bolt a few more things on and get a gearbox sorted then it's almost ready to go in.

Keeping it 4 speed, I can't find anyone who has done this before with one. Most people on the mk2 golf club group on facebook thought it was a stupid idea but I disagree!

Couldn't be much happier with the engine progress.

Managed to source a 4 speed GTI gearbox from a mk1 and it fits so far so good. Will be working on cleaning it up over the weekend also ordering stainless steel 4-2-1 manifold.

                            Thanks everyone.

                            This happened yesterday:

The one thing that didn't arrive on time is the front engine mount ffs...

so I am eagerly awaiting putting this in:

I also need to figure out how to get the gear linkage working, that is a mk2 1.6 8v engine with a mk1 gti 4 speed gearbox. Gonna be lots of fun!

Still working on getting the engine into the car, work and other things have been getting in the way though... will be done for Dubshed show at the start of April however.

In the meantime I couldn't resist buying this:

Sorry for the poor quality but you get the idea!
