                      • I love how throwing in that custom Haltech display is your one-casual-post-in-an-epic-thread. Doing that same thing would be a holy shit look what I spent the last 18 months doing type deal for me lol.

                        Amazeballs.

                        • Bought a Bridgeport, now to make some cool stuff

                           photo DSC02150.jpg

Since the exhaust manifold is running over the transmission there is going to be some extra heat, to remedy this I built the armor/shield from a previous post but the VTC solenoids have been a concern of mine so I decided to make a little extra heat protection

The usual solid bar stock 6061

                           photo DSC02229.jpg

Quick little buzz cut on the lathe to make them pretty

                           photo DSC02231.jpg

                          Making some flat ends

                           photo DSC02232.jpg

                           photo DSC02239.jpg

                          Plunge some holes

                           photo DSC02242.jpg

Now the hole is established I can now rotate the piece 180 then locate the opposing side with the end mill

                           photo DSC02245.jpg

                           photo DSC02246.jpg

                          Cutoff using the lathe

                           photo DSC02252.jpg

                          4 little dudes

                           photo DSC02258.jpg

Here is the VTC solenoid and the shield mounts in place

                           photo DSC02264.jpg

Bit of AL tubing for the shield

                           photo DSC02265.jpg

                           photo DSC02269.jpg

Scribing a line on the lathe

                           photo DSC02281.jpg

Milling the tubing thin on the scribe line so I can easily snap the section of tubing by hand

                           photo DSC02284.jpg

                          Halved

                           photo DSC02286.jpg

Back to the lathe to finish the mounts

                           photo DSC02287.jpg

This is an old way to make a key way on a lathe (I know I could do this on the mill but I used this trick all the time before I had the mill)

                           photo DSC02291.jpg

This is a no power operation! take a flat sharp cutoff blade and mount it horizontally in the tool holder and proceed to run the blade into the material while increasing the depth of the cut minutely each pass

                           photo DSC02297.jpg

                          Makes a perfect key way

                           photo DSC02306.jpg

Milled the inner edges of the tube halves so they now have a nice edge on both sides

                           photo DSC02308.jpg

                           photo DSC02312.jpg

Last but certainly not least the ubiquitous gold insulator wrap

                           photo DSC02321.jpg

Has a very satisfying SNAP! when mounted

                           photo DSC02323.jpg

Happy with it and it is stupid easy to remove requires no tools to remove or install, win win in my book

                            • This has the potential to be one of the best car related internet threads ever, if it isn't there yet. So much porn. Keep it up man, I learn a lot just from reading your posts.
