Daily Eclipse budget build

Been on the search for a daily since my return to the states and picked up a 1997 Eclipse GST for a good deal. Immediately after I got it back to my folks house I googled stanced 2g Eclipse and only three popped up, that was a surprise. I started learning more about 2g Eclipse's through DSM forums and quickly became aware that there is an elitist opinion among eclipse owners that lowering your eclipse and having "fitted" wheels isnt "right". I dont know much about wheel fitment so this is going to be a learning process and Im open to constructive criticism and help.


Replaced the upper ball joints, thermostat, and wipers to pass inspection.

Need help with wheels? I've never seen a stanced 2g in person. I'm excited for this build. I can't think of many wheels that will stand out on this car.

I have a thing for 2g gst wheels with a fat tire on them. I want to make a 3 peice 17" set and a widened 16" set also

I've got a buddy with a 500whp GSX that is working on a fitted look too, and I know from listening to him what you mean about the elitist attitude of most DSM owners. On a side note, I can't wait to see where ou go with this!

My friend has a lowered Talon, but 2G Eclipses and Talon's are dead alike except for badges.

The P/o installed some lowering springs and painted the stock struts SMH, so I plan on getting coilovers. This is my daily so Im not really concerned with it being quick at the moment. But the usual suspects will be present: Paint. Tint. Wheels. etc.

Yeah its like there is an unspoken rule among eclipse owners to have a truck lift on 18s with beefy tires. I'm a firm believer you should build whatever you have how you like it. Is there a build thread to your friends GSX?

Dropped the car off for paint yesterday evening after it passed inspection. Im pretty excited, new paint almost feels like driving a completely different car IMO. My painter sent me these this evening.

Checked that one out, I would like to go a bit more aggressive. That is one sick 2g though.
