  • He said there would be one Camaro, but there is two.

First, +1 if you got the title reference to a quote from the movie "The Freshman," "He said there would be one boy, but there is two."

So anyway, no one here is going to like this build thread lol, but I love this forum and a lot of the builds on here, so anyway...

I had an 02 focus zx3 for my first car bought at 17, I wrecked it and learned a lesson. That car was gorgeous, still sad its gone. I then picked up an 02 Impala LS, had big plans of making it into a VIP style sedan, car was rear ended on my way home from class by a girl at my college. Sucks, but to be honest, it wasn't my thing.

Then around 19 (2 years ago) I picked up this thing, exactly what I was looking for. FR layout, sporty handling, iconic muscle car look, reliable, and dirt cheap parts...sort of. I'm the second owner of this 1996 RS y87 Camaro. The car is somewhat rare, the only two options not purchased for this car are an automatic transmission and a v8 (z28 package). For a v6, it's not common to see this. Car had 70k, now about 97k.

    The car is a 3800 sII (3.8L) v6, t-5 5-spd manual, 3:23 posi rear end car.

I'll give you guys a basic overview of the last 2 years instead of going detail by detail.

    Stock

    Bolt ons

Intake, exhaust, "Camaro" insert letters, removed front license plate holder, hid fog lights, Grand Sport fender stripes...

Snow tires meant for an s10/ranger lol...fitting for the 4x4 gap and sunken stock wheels.

At the end of our local touge run, I can't count how many passes this car has made on it...over 100 easy.

Some sick gauges haha, got them after the car was tuned.

Next I did some brakes, drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads. The car has always been function before form, as I like tearing up the twistys at night and on the weekends.

Then Wheels!!! eventually some moar low!!! but not enough haha. 2 inch drop with DNA Racing linear rate springs and adjustable kyb agx shocks. Car handles better than anything I've ever ridden in, and that's saying something for a 17 year old solid axle "pony car."

    Wheels
    c5 Corvette "wagon wheels" 17x8.5 f, 18x9.5 r.

    Side exit exhaust too!!!

    Lowered...plasti dip too

New wheels for next season, 18x9, 18x10.

In between all of this I started an s/c build, sold it and picked up a turbo kit, which I just sold last week for a profit.

Future plans are to cut the springs to get another 1-1.5 drop front, 2 in drop rear. Then install my RS sides and rear valence, and possibly a JP style front lip. First I need to re-do my exhaust as the sde exit is hanging about an inch off the ground lol.

Last weekend I went with my buddy to look at another project car, about a year ago I bought an s13 shell, ended up doing very little to it and flipped it for a profit. Wanting another project, I picked up this 1980 Camaro.

    Will get more pics tomorrow.

I'm going back tomorrow after work to tow it home with a friend. It was just repainted, has 120k, very little rust, 305 2bbl v8, th350 auto, t-top car. Needs trim, seals, lights re-installed from being painted. Besides this it needs a good tune up and to go over the brakes. It runs and drives, and I paid next to nothing for it.

Plans are to "restore it" in good roadworthy condition, and then drop it 4 inches in the front, 3 in the rear, and get rid of those god awful wheels. I'm thinking about tossing on some 16x10 white steelies with fat rubber on all 4 corners.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I hope to have both cars sorted out and sitting pretty come spring. The 96 will be coming closer to the ground very soon, and the 1980 will be a slow going process to be completed, but I hope to be driving it every chance I get in the next month or so.

Its nice to see another 4th gen f-body on here. If you want moar low and better handling, check out BMR 1-inch lowering a-arms. I love mine. Keep up the good work.

I've had a lot of bad luck with this car, the 3.8 sucks to work on as its set so far back under the cowl, but luckily it hasn't let me down yet, car runs a consistent low 15 in the 1/4 and gets 23-24 mpg, so I like. Thanks, I'm like a kid on christmas eve right now, in 12 hours the car will finally be home with me and I just can't wait haha.

It's been 30 or colder and raining/snowing basically everyday this week, so only progress I've had is to remove all the parts included (all the trim, lights, etc. was inside the car) with the car and go over it in better detail. Car is very solid, and it has a 4bbl carb on it, which means either it has an intake/4bbl swap, or maybe the engine has been swapped with a 350ci chevy v8. I won't know until I can get the serial number off the block on a warmer day and research it online.

            pics of the 1980

Just found out there is another late 70's Camaro a guy is parting out just a few miles away, so even though I'm broke atm, I plan on going to look at it and get a few pieces I'm missing, like weather stripping, door panels, and the lower front grill.

I think 15 in, I can check though. I'll gladly sell them if you want them

edit. Holy hell, they're 17's with 205/50r17 tires.

I thought those steelies looked bigger than 15's... lol. Also, I thought your Camaro came with a 3.4. Looking forward to seeing some updates.

I don't have anything right now that bolt pattern would fit on right now, and too many wheels in the garage already.

haha, not sure why I thought 15's. Benz88 is correct, they used the 3.4L until 95, 96+ is the 3800. Thank's, it supposed to warm up this weekend, so hopefully I'll get some work done on the 80.

there's always adapters haha :p I'm not a fan of them, but they're definitely different, I've never really seen anything like them in 5x120.

Small update, went over the front lights, installed and got the markers working, also fixed the radio, 2 speaker am/fm cassette in all its glory haha, but its cool in a retro kind of way.

Plans for this weekend are to install the headlights/bezels, run to the local hardware store and buy a few nuts that I'm missing for the rear spoiler, and finally go look at the local parts car and pull some stuff of it. I'm also going to paint the faded out grey upper grill in gloss black.

So got some pic heavy updates, finally able to put in some time on this old girl!

First things first were to move it to the flat parking spot in our driveway so I can use a jack/etc. Then started out by removing all of the nuts, bolts, etc that were chilling in the passenger side rear floor. FML I hae no idea where half of these are going lol.

Side Markers installed, I didn't think I had them, both bulbs are burnt out, but just glad to find the assemblies and get them installed.

Sold to me with "vacuum leaks" since half the vacuum lines are either not hooked up or missing, I'd say so lol.

Started fixing a few of them, just to get her to start easier. Eventually I'll replace all of them...after I figure out what's all missing and what goes where lol.

One of the engine braces was removed...idk why.

Upper grill installed. Decided against painting it for now. Still missing a lower grill.

Tail lights and spoiler were just chilling in place,so I bolted the spoiler in, and started working through the bulbs in the tails, 2-3 out of 8 work lol.

So this panel was off, so I started mocking it up...not sure why its a tan/gold color, and why it wasn't repainted blue? I'm probably going to paint it silver to match the rear window trim, which still needs to be put back on. The panel is just set on as I'm planing on painting it.

                              Some interior shots...

Real and original Hurst Hatch t-tops...so friggin cool.
