Little update with the new year.
    Some good. Some bad.

This year was going great for me, my son was born, Scirocco was getting closer to being completed. But in November... I had no interest to really work on the car because of my back it had started to hurt, and I didn't really think much of it. I continued to work, rock the baby to sleep every night... things were going well. Progressively my back was getting worse, Thanksgiving came... Christmas came, and that's when I could barely move at that point.
Last weekend on Sunday I lost feeling completely in my leg and my groin. I fell to the ground walking down a couple of steps in my house. My wife drove me to the ER.. at first they thought I was a 28 year old looking for pills... but after I convinced them of the terrible pain, and the numbness in my leg... they took a risk on me and gave me an MRI. After the MRI they couldn't believe I had walked into the hospital... I had three large herniated disks, and two of them were so herniated and large they were cutting off the nerve to my left leg. They admitted me immediately after the MRI and I had surgery last Monday on my disks and spine. I was under for about 5 hours, and it's been quite painful now recovering.... can't do anything comfortably can't sleep, walk, or sit. But on a positive note, I'm happy not to be paralyzed, and happy to be alive and well. 2014 is going to be a great year for me.
NOW on a positive note. I AM ALIVE, and I will recover.
BUT before I went down last weekend I had made some big changes and investments to my shop at my house.
I've been powdercoating on the side doing little valve covers and manifolds for a while now. I've mostly stuck to painting because I didn't have the oven size... my limitations were my small household spare oven I had. But I decided to make an investment on a much larger oven

    It's 5.5Wide X 5.5Deep x 6.5Tall

You can see the rabbits engine on the stand infront of it.

Non blurry picture of the beast.

Translucent Gold over powdered chrome on my roccos strut bar.

I also decided on a color for the Rabbit. It's hard to find a picture of it online, but for some reason I really like this color " Prairie Pearl Coat ". It's a new dodge ram color

    Then I found a deal on a compressor I couldn't pass up.

So 2014 I'm thankful to be alive and well. Looking forward to working on this car... and getting my powdercoating business of the ground.

On a side note, I'm almost done building the 16v for the rabbit. However I am missing some nuts and bolts so I have to make a list of the hardware I need.
I am also 100% going the Weber Carb route, that's going to be my biggest investment of this build.

Cabby and Rabbit are in bunkers for now. But I plan on getting cracking on this project soon! I can't wait.

Sciroccos has been in the way over the pit. I put a whole new 2.5exhaust system on it with a borla, I swapped out the Magnaflow that droned so bad on the highway

I started building the motor in Novemeber....

Here's the block I have, it turns over easy, and looks decent inside. It has a little rust from sitting at the top of the cylinder walls. I have to get some emery cloth.

Looks like this was a factory REMAN block, so it should have lowish miles compared to a original motor

Free head on the left, and good head on the right.

    Yucky

Looks like it was pore\ted and polished by someone

It's clean on the inside, looks like some point in it's life it was rebuilt.

This is a head on drugs. Any questions?

So my goal is to build a complete head with spare parts I have. I'll prob need new lifters, springs and retainers. But with any built head those are bought new anyway. Oh yeah I needed another set of hands to help me lift the block on the stand, and my back isn't in the greatest shape today. So in a nutshell I'm in the gather parts phase. If I didn't just dump a bunch of money on a compressor and an oven I'd be looking for a used head in the classifieds ,but as of right now I'm in the cheap fail mode.
If anyone have spare parts they'd like to sell or donate I'll gladly appreciate it

But it's 1/17/14. I have my new oven, new 7 HP 23 CFM compressor, my health... and I can walk. 2014 is going to be a good year for me.

I can lift more than 20 pounds for a long time, so I've been resting and investing on new parts and equipment

Glad your back is ok. I cannot wait to see what you will powdercoat next, that bar looks tits.

I never thought I would like anything about a dodge ram, but that color is nice.

Thank you. I met a kid off the interweb today, who wants to barter a 16v head for some powdercoating. So that'll work out well for the both of us.

Won these wheels off of eBay. They're ugly and rare because they are so ugly. I'm going to either polish these or powdercoat them. I'm leaning towards killing myself polishing them, not sure which color would go best with the Beige I love.

I've been secretly rebuilding this 24v in my free time, and slowly accumulating parts for it Rebuild parts for this motor are expensive in comparison to the 16v or 8v.

This is going to be another expensive project lol.

Car is going to be torn apart and then media blasted after I finish my friends Volvo that's ultimately funding this project.
