            • sooo this is where im at. im not sure if there are any engine gurus here, but yeah.
a few months ago i did a 248/232 cam swap. the car always ran rich, and like shit. even after timing it, it always sputtered and sounded floody. over the last few weeks it started acting really strange though. the first incident was my o2 sensor going off. the car has never had an engine light (under my ownership, anyway). i did, however, notice it running a bit more rich lately, and thought that would explain it. did the o2, light turned off, but it still ran like junk. a bit better, but still ran like shit. last week on saturday i drove my car from pickering to oshawa, (whites to ritson, if anyone knows the area) and gave it some gas on the highway. it was fine, sounded cool. the car always ran awesome on the highway, and higher up in the revs. not floody at all. i got to ritson, parked the car, hung out for a while, and after about an hour or so went to leave. got in the car, and it started up fine. heres where shit starts to get weird. the car started missing. like, really bad. across four cylinders. would hardly idle. i thought it was plugs soaked, so i just drove the 3k of highway driving to work (ritson to stevenson). it was misfiring and driving like shit all the way there. the engine legit felt like it fell out of timing, because it just would not go. it would miss, hesitate etc.. so i get to work, hear a snap and the car dies. whatever. leave the car there, go to topp drift with some pals, come back the next day and realize that it was a dirty connection on the negative side of the battery terminal (lol, at the time i thought i needed an alt). wipe it as clean as i can, spray some brake cleaner on the fouled plugs, and it starts up fine. except now it is idling higher than normal. 1500 rpm to be exact. i don't think much of it, and drive it around anyway. do some hektik skidz to test it out, everythings gravy m8. so i drive the car from oshawa to pickering to drop off the car i was borrowing with a pal. in pickering, i go to start the car and it floods. weird, my car never flooded before this. wait a few minutes, start it again with the gas pedal to the floor and it starts but is missing and shit again due to the plugs being fouled. give it some gas, it stops missing on the drive and is fine. still idling at 1500 rpm though. i then notice the engine light on again, and my buddy actually comments on how rich the car is running, complaining that the smell of gas inside the car is actually giving him a headache. a bit dramatic, but it did smell very gassy. i have an exhaust leak right under my manifold cat (slammed life, yo), but this was bad. so i decide right then and there i need the cam gone. take it to a buddies shop and we work on it for a while, and he ended up having to take out the intake side cam, exhaust side cam and distributor. threw everything back together, stabbed the dizzy on the right mark, no resistance, viva la france. goes to crank it over, crank crank crank no start. its flooding. cleans plugs, (heres where it gets dumb) takes out the fuel pump fuse, starts up great. no problems. ran for a while with the fuel pump fuse out, too. he told me 15 minutes at one point. i thought the plugs werent giving a good enough spark to deal with pressurized gas being thrown at it, so i got new plugs. threw them in last night, nothing. same story. without the fuel pump fuse it will run for a while, until it eventually runs out of gas thats in the lines/egr. but while its running it sounds fine, doesn't miss a beat. still idles at 1500 rpm though. i am completely beat and lost, if anyone has any input that would be great

              • sounds like a fuel pressure regulator issue, or tps maybe something that would fool the computer into thinking it needs more fuel, or just a bad FPR dumping to much fuel for the rail so the injectors are firing correctly but just at to high of a volume. i don't know anything about nissans but thats my best guess

so i replaced and checked a bunch of shit, including the fpr and it still wouldnt start. after checking over basically every fuse and line and ground i thought could be related, i decided to check the ecu one more time for blink codes. what shows up?
lucky number 13. coolant temp sensor.

got one the next morning at partsource and whammy, fired right up. changed the gas loaded oil, quickly did the ignition timing and its been running great all day. super stoked! who would have thought that stupid plug would lead to so much confusion.

                  • cool so im not sure if i told you, but after i thought my alternator quit (which turned out to be a shitty ground) i fixed it, drove it for a day, and that night it flooded and left me stranded again, this time blowing out the drivers side rear brake line. so i just sorta said [OK] [COOL] and fixed it.

little did i know, the brake line i put in was brushing ever so lightly against my rim. and tonight, after i thought all my woes were over, it blew out on the highway. so i had to drive about 10k through mixed city/highway driving with no brakes. oh, my ebrake also isnt hooked up. so i legit had zero brakes.
got it home at 9pm, found a guy who had a brake line by 10, got to his place (40k away) at 1030, home and started the job by 11 and done and bled by 12. I let it gravity bleed for a while so it made the bleed ing process alot better. they feel pretty OK but im going to give them the a once over again tomorrow after work, while i get my exhaust finished.

also i put my rear bumper on:

other than paint i am aesthetically loving this car rn. gotta raise the drivers side rear an inch, as its a tiiiiny bit lower than the passenger side (lol)

                      • This thread should be retitled "The car that would not die".

I know a mate and his girlfriend who fitted some wheels that were too close to the brake lines, ended up popping them approaching a multi-lane roundabout! At least they did have the handbrake lol

it will die when it has my permission to do so. i was pretty worried, im going to work on getting the ebrake hooked up tomorrow. i also got a tablet and radio connector, so im going to extend some wires, hide the deck in the dash and run the tablet as an interface. its a blackberry playbook that i have no idea how to use, but it has 32 gb of space, so ill be able to load it up with songs and movies and shit.

                          better look at the blasties

                          • since i got the rear bumper i haven't had a rear plate light, so i went to princess auto and got an LED strip, cut it to size and wired it in and stuck it to my bumper. so cool, its as bright as my headlights. i love it. i just need to make a cool plate bracket.

i also managed to get my hands on a blackberry playbook, so ill be wiring that into my dash as soon as i can figure out how to wire in my radio. its a little lame, since the harness thing i got from walmart doesn't really make any sense. ill just have to hardwire the deck into my harness lol.

                            • ayyyy i painted it. started in the evening and got the panels (still tacky) back on at like, 1230am.

i still have to paint the trunk ( haven't yet de badged it) and once it dries ill have to wet sand everything to smooth it over, but right now its pretty cool. its supposed to be nice and sunny for the next few days, so it will be able to really bake in the heat. im probably going to give some areas another coat, but im happy so far. not bad for 25 bucks.

its all going to be covered in stickers/rubber/tire marks in a few days anyway, first drift event is the 9th.
