funny story, zip ties actually hold my whole front end in. everything. except the hood, thats still bolted on (for now)Originally posted by Dremetos View Postu call ur self a fukeng 240 owner an u want to REPLACE an PaNEL? where r the zep tis ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????
the front quarters, headlights, bumper, lip and basically everything cosmetic is held in with zip ties.
once i pulled into my driveway and everything (yes, everything headlights included) just exploded and fell off the car. it was pretty funny looking back, but not really that funny at 3am. super handy though because minimal damage happens.

Some updates:
1. I got a Passat 1.8t for free
2. The oil pickup clogged
3. So now I have to do an oil pickup on that and lower the subframe and all that bs.
4.My 240 is off the road so I can save some money and build it over winter

My plans are mainly suspension based, nothing to really make it that much prettier. I am still undecided as to if I want to go Aero or Navan. Right now I am leaning towards Navan as I have 17s and 17s with aero looks kind of silly.
Anyway I made a cool mix of acetone and atf and am letting my subframe studs soak in that for a while, so they hopefully dont snap on the way out.
Then I am buying this:

cleaning it, painting it black and putting some new multilink and bushings in it and throwing it back in my car.
In the mean time I stripped some of the interior, to start designing my switch panel. My headlight harness grounds are a little fucked up, somethings wrong somewhere because when i turn my headlights all the way off i get 12 volts to my drivers side light... So i am just going to put the grounds for high beams on one switch and low beams on another. So that will be two switches. And then I am getting electric fans, so thats another switch. And after i relocate my battery to the trunk I am putting a kill switch in as well. Thats basically the extent of the winter plans. I am more nervous about pulling the subframe than anything else, because I really really really dont want to break one of those pesky studs. Anyway onto more photos:

still undecided if i should cut this higher

also found more rust on my drivers side floor but I really dont care. The car does not owe me a thing, I got my fun season out of it and am just going to let it rust away. I love the car but sometimes theres just a point when one just has to sort of let go. I'll give it one more season and then probably reshell to something else.

and heres a pic of me sliding at boonies bash having an awesome time getting pretty smokey for a KA

yeah im gonna do it just to be safer...Originally posted by Daffy View PostLooks awesome! You may want to cut that arch a little higher, I generally here that up to that body line is best.
Today I got more progress done. I mostly was set on just cracking the four subframe bolts, as I've heard a ton of stories about snapping the studs and owners scrapping the cars. I really didn't want that to be the way my car went out (not a firey explosion) so i decided to spend a day working on four bolts. They were super super super super dirty and corroaded looking so I cleaned them up a bit, and DOUSED them in my favorite secret Liquid Wrench mix (ATF/Acetone, works magic)
so ya onto photos:
The way I basically planned to attack these was soak them in the secret mix (They've been soaking for a few days) use a yellow torch I got from Canadian tire (35 bucks on sale) and get the nuts red hot and then blast them in short soft blasts with the impact gun, steadily adding more force until the nut started to turn. If it didn't come at all I just added more heat and secret mix and eventually it would.

One nut off

This is a really shitty photo but it was starting to get dark, I disconnected the toe arms to get to the rear subframe nut

I was pretty excited that I was able to get them out without any real drama. I literally took them out, soaked them in pb blaster and threaded them back on hand tight... I still need to drop the exhaust and disconnect the handbrake lines.

This is the magical stuff

Thanks for reading this pathetically drawn out update about four bolts that I've been stressing out about since mid to late july you guys are the best

Sup a-holes. Ive been gone a while but have some updates:
1) I tried 4chan
2)4chan was way too weird so i tried reddit/r/drifting
3)r/drifting kicked me out because they apparently suck at breathing and counting to ten, so im back to 4chan
4)I pulled my subframe
5)I got a new subframe
6) New bushings
7)New Multilink
8)Subframes back in the car
onto photos:
so yeah the subframe was basically ready to come out, I got a trusty sawzall and sliced the exhaust off just in front of it, at the resonator. hardly any space, and it was my first time using one of those things. it gets pretty violent when you catch an edge, i was getting rag dolled around like no tomorrow until i got a hold of it

whammy. exhaust off and sold; new much longer blast pipes for next season. Im thinking 3 inch dual about 15 inches out of the rear bumper

Then i dropped the subframe... I had to sort of pry it out, and it was really lame because the front two studs had the bushings and collars siezed on the stud. I wasn't sure how to get it off so I just left it there and called it a day

It was around now that i realized that my only jack was under the subframe, and my only two jack stands were being used... not sure if you can tell by the photo, but the subframe was stuck under the car. So i had to get a friend to come with a jack to help me get the subframe out.
Obviously when he actually showed up, I realized that I could have just pulled the subframe out of the side of the car. So that was nice.
old Subframe out:

then my arms came in the mail:

Godspeed, ebay. 200 bucks to my door. No complain
then I laid all my bushings out all pretty like

whammy, into the new subframe:

so fresh and cool looking in comparison to my old one. NOW MY ALIGNMENT ISSUES WILL HOPEFULLY BE SOLVED
going for zero rear camber and hopefully 7 in the front when the control arms are extended
So remember those bushings that were seized on the stud?
yeah; had to cut them out. In hindsight it really was not a huge deal, but at the time life sucked. Basically I had to burn the rubber bushings off of the collar so it was down to the bare metal collar, and sit there and patiently grind (NOT CUT, GRIND) the collar down for what seemed like ages until there was a little slit in it. once there was a slit, it fell right off the stud. classic aluminium/steel/canadian weather seizing bs.
anyway heres a picture of my victims:

and heres the subframe in the car:

steve was a huge help, getting the subframe out was cake in comparison to getting it back in with all the collar drama. Its amazing how much it helps having someone who actually knows what they're doing around, especially when s/he doesnt just stand there and watch. Steve (dutchie here, i think), you da man.
