Wuddup StanceWorks i have 1987 E30 that I am wondering if it will even be worth the taboggle. A little history of the car. I bought the car off a r3vlimited member who purchased it from the one who started the junkyard save in the first place JasonC. The car may not look to bad but what lies underneath is a whole other ball game. I purchased the car about 2 years ago. I drove around for a little bit as is because it looks bad ass. However the disease and rot i have going down below is not safe in the slightest degree but I'm wondering from the Experts (You Guys) what i should do with this tight little machine because im am new to this game but deff willing to cooperate and listen. looks like a fare amount of rot but still she can be saved id get her wheels off the ground and start probing around for hidden rust holes then form a game plan from there but in the end it all comes down to how much you love and want this car that determines how much work you want to put in to saving it

I am going to get a lot more detailed pics of the rest of the car today when i'm home from work. Once i pull up that carpet and the rest of the interior i will determine wether or not its worth while. its such a pretty machine to just hack up for parts. my buddy of mine welds so that im not worried about and the material as well. I just need to figure out the process to get this this thing back in some presentable shape down below. And freshen up everyhitng else . but like a i said some more updates today.. all input welceome. i work well with constructive critcism.

Yeah it can be saved. The biggest problem is the wheels.

(They fit great but I just always dislike them real or fake. Looks really good otherwise)

pull off all the good parts and trash it. Its always far better, less stressing, less time consuming, and of course cheaper to start with a good chassis then repairing a rotted one, especially when e30's are a dime a dozen. Ive learned this with my 6

after owning 5 e30's i have realized one thing, is that e30's are a dime a dozen like you mentioned but e30's without much rot are hard to find, and from what i have seen over the years those people know what they have. 1 out of the 5 only had the tiniest amount of cancer in the battery trey, that cleaned up very well.

I realize he lives on the east coast so rust free cars are hard to find but in my opinion its worth the wait to buy a good example which Im sure you can still get a sweet of a deal for a rust free one if you have a little patience.

I was thinking of parting it out but i didnt want to give up on it so soon lol. but taken that you have had your experience with the E30 so i might just have to let it go.

It all depends on how dirty you are willing to get. You can spend your time transferring parts to a car with less rot, or fix the rust on this one.

I believe it would be a complete waste of time transferring the parts or building up another e30 unless it is rust free. It seems like this e30 is not your daily driver, and you have other means of transportation, so down time shouldn't be a problem if you do decide to fix the rust.

In my opinion it can definitely be saved. But that's also coming from a guy with a '76 2002 that has a street sign as a floorboard. There's no sense in trashing it or swapping the parts to another car. The rust/rot isn't all that bad but there may be more hidden. If you can weld (or know somebody that can), save it.

I don't know what planet you're living on, but the prices for decent e30's have exploded in the past few years.


With that said, that does look pretty bad. Such a shame, too, always liked that car...

Update

So i decided to tear into this ratchet machine and pull the interior and get a more focused look on the cancer situation. Everything went smoothly. I pulled the front bumper off as well, it looks surprisingly well under neath there. How ever the driver side floor now down to the bones, you can now see the wheel well is catching some disease along with the firewall near the steering column. The floor pan was once patched with a plate that has also now caught a case of the rot so I'm going to cut the rest of that out hopefully this week

Update

So this weekend i was able to get a lil bit accomplished and find out more about the project i took on. i was able to cut some of the driver side floor pan as well as grind out the rust and other bs that was lurking around the lovely passenger floor. I will be attacking more when i get home today and ill get some more update pics.. lmk what you gentlemen think
