  • B6 S4 build (my first build!)

So got this baby about six months ago while stationed in Virginia for training. Its a 2005 Audi S4 (4.2), Dolphin Grey, with 18x8.5 Keskin KT-4s (unknown offset as they were on the car when i bought it.)

    When I first got her:

So.... then i wanted to add some of my own touches, bear with me, I've been a lurker in the stance scene for some time but now have a car to work with and better yet it's one of my all time favorites. Nothing beats the grunt of that 4.2 v8 matched up with quattro in, what I think is the prettiest A4 body style Audi has put out.

    So I wrapped the headlights:

...but got pulled over a few times while home in Arkansas so I peeled it off.

And then there was stance... after getting settled at my new station in Texas I began building her (note, she's still a work in progress)

And then there was stance.... H&R Street Coilovers

    and a dipped grill...

    Initial fitment on 225/40 r18 and 255 and 255/30 r18

Oh, btw, this is my first standard and I sorta cracked the bumper in a parking lot when i first got her, hence the drift stitches lol (adds character)

    Rear still rubbing some:

Front sitting good (fenders rolled, but not pulled):

Didn't think this would get so in depth lol, mods if you want to move this to builds, feel free to, mah bad.

SO...Then it was time to do a brake job. New pads and rotors up front and pads in the rear! Super easy, right?......

      ECS Tuning had the goods:

SO... remember how I said the I bought the car with the wheels on?
Yeah the jackwagon previous owner didn't calculate the offset with fresh pads... sooo I had fitment issues needless to say.

I tried grinding the caliper some, but it wasn't enough clearance:

Let there be clearance! 10mm rear spacers and 7/16in (If I remember correctly) up front:

So naturally I had to pull my fenders. (just a little up front, but I went ham on the rears

Getting better! (btw there are gnarly speedbumps to get on and off base ):

BTW!... I would love feedback, so tell me what ya'll think! Criticism, constructive and otherwise, is welcome. (flame suit on lol )

So, right before doing the coilovers, I decided to experiment with my exhaust so... I chopped off the main cats and let it dump right there! It was so obnoxiously loud my wife refused to ride in it and the drone was unbearable on the highway (and I like loud cars, but this was baaaaaaad) So I just recently decided to clean up the sound! ***flamesuit activated*** I was not about to pay 1000 plus dollars (I'm enlisted military, and they don't pay me enough lol) for the some catback that is on every other B6 S4 out there. SO I did this...

Got two of these 12"x4" bullet style resonators by Vibrant at (don't judge, I just know a guy who works there) PepBoys:

Came out of PepBoys and couldn't find my car! She was playing hide and seek behind a diesel

Took these to a local muffler shop and had it welded up 2.5" catless back with an x-pipe and stainless tips:

They may not be the prettiest welds, but they'll hold well. Besides, I paid a little over 400 bucks for this whole setup, and I am happy with it. The sound is deep and throaty down low, but at wot over 2700 rpm it is just musical! The minimal muffler really lets the sounds of that 4.2 shine through, instead of letting the muffler make the sound.

And that's where I'm at as of right now. To be done by Christmas: Resealed headlights with blacked out housings, new battery (I think it's going bad, even though diagnostics say it still has charge, idk), repainted grills (paint not dip this time), and (drumrollllll) stripping/painting mah wheeels! Which is where I need your help. Ideas? I'm thinking either bronze face and lip, or copper face, polished lip. Throw me some braintstorming juice?

So... I did this this week. Thoughts?

Hammered copper rattle canned on. Gonna carry it over to the mirrors. Wheels, I'm thinking copper lips to match the grille, and hammered black faces. Yeah?

            Hello.
I am a fellow Audi A4 owner too. Please. Dont ruin it with rattle can touches.
In my opinion they are not working. I never did what others told me, and never asked for their opinion on my car.

But since you asked for our thoughts, thought I'd tell you.
You have a great base car to begin with. Keep it classy and the car will pay you back with a smile.

            Cheers

Hey! Appreciate the input! I did keep things mild and classy at first, but I've decided to go a bit more bold to try and stand out from the crowd. I think it'll tie together a lot better once I get the wheels, mirrors, and headlight housings painted, but in the end, if I don't like the final product, I can always order badgeless grille inserts (you can see my present grilles aren't in the best shape which is why I had no qualms about spraying them.) The pictures don't do it justice either, it looks much better in person.

So I've been getting some whiffs of a strange burning smell occasionally over the last week. That along with indications of some oil slight seepage around the heads is telling me it may be time for gasket replacement. This car has put holes in my pockets haha.

Not feeling the grille, drift stitches or the chipped up paint on the rear quarters from pulling. The car is great, I love the height, great color too, but the other things mentioned kind of cheapens it for me. Put the grille back to stock or just all black again, and it will look 100x better.

Good start, and I'm a bit jealous of your car. lol (been wanting an S4 forever)

                      It's a work in progress^

I hear ya, the grille is more of an expirement to give me something cheap and easy to play with and brainstorm color combos, and the drift stitches are temporary until I feel like dropping the dough on an oettinger front. And idk if I mentioned this earlier but the chipped paint isn't from pulling lol. When I drove the car from va to tx, the stock shocks were completely shot, and the original owner had spacers on the back wheels, so that's where the chipping came from actually :-P this is kind of a slower build due to budgeting, but I can definitely see a wrap in future

Ah, gotcha. I think this car will end up pretty sweet. And I feel ya on the slow build part, that's exactly how my Saab is going. haha

What's your suggestion then? All my stuff is uploaded to instagram because all I have for photos is my Galaxy III, no digital camera or anything.
