  • soon to be low, should stay slow

Well I have been lurking on here since I had my last build thread on another site, 2000 Nissan Xterra, 4 inch lift, 33x12.5 tires on crager soft 8's, custom tube bumper yadda yadda yadda. Everyone grows out of getting high sooner or later, now its time to get low!

So here is my series of unfortunate events (seriously, it is one thing after another with this car!)

I bought my 2006 2.5i Impreza last fall (2012) and decided to immediately drive across country in it knowing very little about the car.

I hard wired my radar detector and while doing some found these two green plugs under the steering column, I plugged them in and it started throwing codes… about 12 of them. After a LOT of research I found out these plugs are only to be put together when flashing the ECU. Unplugged them, codes went away!

I need one! I have had the car for a year and have been pulled over too many times to count! However, I’ve only had one ticket in that car #smoothtalker ….did I really just hashtag?

Now at this point, every time I stop the car, smoke comes pouring out of the engine bay, oil is dripping onto the exhaust. So, I put on my roof rack, packed the car so much I could hardly see out of it and hit the road, the west was calling my name!

Half way through Nebraska I am driving along i80 (on a Sunday of course and all the junk yards are closed!) and my rear passenger window blows out! For those of you not familiar with Yakima and Subaru’s, the clip for the rack hooks on the door opening and there is not frame around the window, so the glass hits the clip (I think that’s what did it.) Thankfully the people in Nebraska are overly nice and many people stopped to give me card board and tape to patch it up!

[I could find the picture to put here but seriously, it is just a broken window]

So I power through to Utah, not wanting to leave my life exposed in a hotel parking lot and hit a junk yard in Salt Lake City the next day.

Now I am living in Sandy, Utah and everything is wonderful, except my car is still smoking… Head gasket? Valve cover gasket? Who knows. There is more than enough white powder to go around and life couldn’t be any better until BAM! My neighbor backs into my car and dents the fender… not so bad; I will go talk to them tomorrow. Walk outside the following day and what now? Well my fender is dented even worse, my bumper is cracked and falling off and my head light is shattered!

In short, there is a dent at the same height on their 4runner’s bumper, they deny it, my insurance wants a police report, officer says it’s obvious they did it but he cannot do anything unless they admit to it, my insurance does nothing.

I pop the fender out, sand down the chipping paint, prime it and make a sweet packing tape head light! Yeah be jealous!

    Okay fast forward!

I just quit my job so what better things to do than spend money on my car! I mean it only makes sence, now I actually have time to start my build!

I found these rims on KSL for $60, jumped on them, went to put them on and my lug nuts don't work, I need “tuner style” lug nuts… so ordered them, now I wait.

Winter is coming so I will need my roof rack again, I do not want any more broken windows so I made some custom Q-clips to hook on the rain gutters. It wasn’t too hard aside from the fact that the hex key bolts are stripped and rusted frozen so, I drilled through the Q-towers and cross bars to fasten them on, what a pain!

Now my bumper is starting to crack further and it’s time to fix that, I drilled a hole at the end of the crack to keep it from traveling and gave it some stitches.

Look at the tape head light, you know you want one. Custom headlights by Devin, $200 a pair. I except cash, money order and papypal. Get at me!

Now I will be the first to admit that the fender looks like poop. Silver is hard to match… so what should I do? I could get all West Valley with it and rust the fender #rustisnotacrime (seriously, who #hashtags) or I could paint it… Rust? Paint? Rust? Paint? Rust? PAINT!

Okay here are the options. Find a good graffiti artist to tag it, go matte black or paint it camo?

    Camo it is!

JK however the paint is on its way, but where are my lug nuts!?!?

I know I know! This forum is about stance, not fixing cosmetic issues. My lug nuts are on the way! So I am still doing some research on how I will be lowering this guy. First off how does lowering a car change driving with snow? Also for those of you familiar with Subaru’s, Springs? Coil overs? I would really like bags! How are bags affected by the cold?

    More to come!
