Hi all. I've been lurking in SW for a while now and I finally decided to make my own thread.
Until about 1,5 years ago I swore on anything I hold dear that I'll never buy a BMW. Then this happened:
My brother-in-law asked me if I know someone who wants to buy a BMW. I didn't, but since the price was a real bargain and I currently didn't own a car I bought it from him myself.
The first thing I did was that I installed foglights. Got them with the car, brand new. Brother-in-law just didnt had the time to install them. He had basically given up on that car.
Then the fuel pump decided to stop cooperating. I was lucky, because a friend of mine had a new pump (around 300 miles on it) for my car. Next day I changed the pump and was back on the road...
Now I needed new rims, because winter was coming and rolling on 10" wide wheels in snow is not very pleasant IMO. Besides my rear tires looked like that:
Can anyone tell me what are these rims? Style 5 replicas of some sort?
I didn't have to look very long for new rims, a friend of mine was willing to part with his 8x16" Azev type A rims, because they didn't quite fit his E36. So an 40€ and an hour later my car looked like this:
Let's fast forward couple of months, because nothing significant happened. But then, just before the first snow, my rear diff broke
Towed the car to my friend's place, and my search for a new diff began. Took a while but finally found an 3,73 open diff. Before I had the chance to put it under the car, my friend decided that it would be funny to paint the diff
After I installed this "Hello Kitty monstrosity" I decided that it is time to give a new look to the car. So i painted the front grille and hood emblem matte black. I also covered foglights and high beams with yellow filters.
Since the passenger side front fender had a hole in it I decided to do something a bit different wit the car. I removed all the paint and protective coats using an angle grinder with steel brush. Results were pretty good:
After a few days and a lot of salt water:
As you can see from the last picture, the paint on the car was pretty crappy, so that needed to change. Since I didn't have a decent place to paint my car I used Montana Black series sprays First things to get new paint were rims. Decided to paint them Irish Green:
Time went by and the car changed color piece by piece, because it was my daily driver and I didn't have the option to strip it and paint the whole car. Meanwhile I discovered that both of the front springs were broken. So I cut them a little more and did the same with rear springs. I know it is wrong but had no other option at the time...
Passenger side doors and top of the front fender painted matte black:
Of course after I lowered the car, I managed to break the rear bumper while reversing. Luckily it was a quick fix:
Roof racks have proven pretty useful so far
Track day:
Since I had planned from the beginning to facelift the car, a friend of mine made me an offer I couldn't refuse:
Almost done, still missing a few parts
I also darkened the low beams and installed US-style indicator lights
Then I thouht that front bumper needed a little change:
Since black wasn't working for me I decided it needed a little something extra
Now when the bumper was finished and all of the car painted it was time to show my car to others. @ Speedest Dunlop Nightrace 2013
Thanks to the cut springs the car didn't have almost any comfort while driving, so it was time to upgrade the suspension. My choice was BC Racing coilovers.
Brother-in-law called me last month and offered me a set of rims. Turns out that the rims he offered me were the same set of rims he bought the car with: AC Schnitzer type II 9,5x18" ET22 @rear and 8,5x18" ET15 @front
Front rims have 7mm spacers... Rears need spacers too along with rolled fenders.
This is it for now, Rocketmagnet out...
