My bimmer is also a 1990 325ic Brilliantrot on tan interior, the only difference being mine has a 5-speed. I gotta say, I want your interior, man! Minty fresh.
How do you like the Raceland coils with the cabrio? Also how did you paint the windshield trim? That's something that's faded on my car too.
Anyways, I'm diggin' Brenda cause it's almost like seeing my car in a parallel universe.

Yeah the interior is a 10/10, love it. As far as the racelands, they actually ride really nice, we will see how they hold up in the long run. The windshield trim was just masked off (tediously) and sprayed black. Pretty straightforward.Originally posted by CabriosAndroidicus View PostMy bimmer is also a 1990 325ic Brilliantrot on tan interior, the only difference being mine has a 5-speed. Okay, i was out of town for a few days for my brothers wedding in boston, but some stuff showed up while i was gone, including my adapters. I went out and bought one ball see lug bolt so i could measure up shank lengths etc and order the proper set of bolts for the porsche wheels.
Heres some math for anyone not versed on lug bolts or even offset calculation.
Porsche wheels 17x7 et 50 and 17x8.5 et 55 (stamped on the wheel)
E30's can run offsets anywhere from 0 to +20 in these sizes, and then it just comes down to a matter of taste.
Adapters can be had in different thicknesses, so if I want my end result to be somewhere around 15, i need a 40mm adapter for the rear to yield 15 in the rear, and a 40mm up from for an offset of 10 up front. Perfect.
Now onto the Lug bolt size calculation. Porsche rims use a 14x1.5 thread bolt, with a ball seat (very important). Adapters were ordered with this female threading. Next step is to see how long you want the bolts to be, so you have plenty of threads grabbing, as well as not too many so that it bottoms out.
I bought one ball seat at my local advance, and measured the shank length. (from base of bolt to beginning of seat)
the one i had bought happened to be 27mm. I then put the bolt in the wheel and measured how long the threads that "stuck through" were. 17mm. So i now know the wheel uses 10mm of thread meat.
If ive got a 40mm adapter and 10mm to be used for the rim, ideally a 50mm would work in a perfect world. Its not a perfect world, and to not risk bottoming the threads out and not being able to properly tourque my wheels, i bought final dimensions of 14x1.5 ball seat 45mm shank. Done.
Anyways onto some quick pictures, with test fit of proper offset.
Again, 17x8.5 rear final offset +15

And just so you get a feel for almond....

Im tire shopping after class today
