  • ok, so here's my happy medium.

Decided to run a 1/4" red stripe on the outer bead of the rim, to get the feeling of a red line tire, without having to paint the tires. It continues on the whole subtle thing, which i'm cool with.

I'll get some better shots in the daylight tomorrow morning.

    • That looks much better than the white lettering and it looks much better than I would have though=)

      • The red stripe looks great, the fact that it's on the outside of the lip is very unique, I envision it almost disappears from the side and appears as you change your perspective/move around. Once again you've accomplished a very unique look, kudos! This car makes me want to get my Pontiac 6000LE out of storage and give it some stance!

Thanks! You're right, you really cant see the red from dead on... makes for a cool detail.

In other news, been playing with the interior.

I took out the console and it left a hole in the dash.

While at the pick-a-part i yanked a glove box door and very carefully took it apart :

i was able to cut part of it down to a decent size:

          ... and bob's yer uncle!

          • Red stripe was a good choice. Corduroy interior is ballin'.

Impressed you found another Omni (I assume) in a yard as I have not seen ANY in years.

            I like em dropped.

To derail my own thread for a sec, i was looking at this thing, and got to wondering what it would look like if it got the same type of treatment as mine (more or less).
I say do it up, brotha!

Yeah the corduroy seats are the coolest part of the interior...

                So much 80's!

I found out that the cage that I spent all kinds of money having blasted and powder coated doesn't fit in the car (long story, that can be summed up in the fact that i'm an idiot and didnt fully test fit the cage before spending money and found out that it was for an 87 GLHS, not an 86 GLHS, which for those of ya that care to know is 2" taller and essentially a different car.) I sold the cage and decided to put the full interior back in for now instead of goin full-out race car status. A cage might still be in the future, but it'll be custom and hug the structure better, since i'm not really impressed by the bolt in one's and how crowded it gets with em in there. Perhaps more on that later.

As i took the parts down from the rafters, i realized how brittle, ratty, and generally beat up a lot of that stuff is, so it was time to raid the local pick-a-parts.

                Score!

It's hard to tell from that interior pic, but the dr seat is pretty threadbare and has a big split, so i was geeked to find this one in considerably better shape. (I was lucky since these are actually pretty rare since only the GLH Omnis have the corduroy inserts. Regular Omnis just has solid fabric)

                • Those seats actually look like they have some good lateral support. Good junkyard find!

They're better than some, worse than many. lol
When I bought one of the other GLH's I owned, it had stock Plymouth Omni (Horizon) seats in it, and it was like driving on grandmas couch, though I'm not sure if that was because GLHs had better bolstering, or if the other seats were just blown out because the previous owner was a big boy.

My long term game plan is to find a good set of one piece Recaro, Cobras, Brides, etc that are out of date, or with the material sun bleached or torn, and recover them in this same corduroy material/pattern. Not a new idea, but I think it's be a cool way to keep the car's super-rad 1986 vibe goin strong.

                          • thanks!

Have the front end apart right now, and fabbing up a backing plate to support a front tow hook, .... and I finally got around to having my battery kill switch label cut.

                            • Your build thread has made my evening. I was taking it slow, reading through every post, because it's really exiting. Made me want to put up my own build here, which is by far not as exiting as yours, but a bit simillar in meaning of giving a car a second life. And yeah, I'm almost as good as you in spending loads of cash on things that aren't the ones I need/want)
I really like the height that you've chosen, the sporty look. I am keeping it the same in my build. Might post a link for you to check it out when I'm done
                              Keep up the good work!

Full engine rebuild, displacement increased from 2.0 to 2.165, suspension and wheels are to come. Can't tune without restoration!

Random snapshot of last nights garage session. most of the time was spent on the 54 Plymouth getting it road ready for a show this weekend, but late night was back to the GLH.
