As a random side note, I sold the rear two 185/45 tires (they were actually in nice shape compared to the fronts) to a dude who was up-sizing as well.... from 165's. I dug up the pics that he sent me of what they were replacing... I know that some cats like more stretch than others but I'd be terrified to roll on these:

..but i digress.
More to come!
Yeah, I have 165/50s right now on a Mk 1 Jetta. It looks ok, and they're not stretched anywhere near that much, but I want my meaty tires back.
Enough about my junk - I'm excited to read more about this thing!
I don't know if he is talking about the K-car Lebaron, but if I could get my hands on one of those turbo Town and Country wagons, I would rock that bitch in a heartbeat!

Love this thing what width are those rims on your car?? Looking for a similar look with my tyres
Fronts are 7.5" width w/ +15 offset, and 8” for the rears with a 0 offset. Not really that wide, but I guess when the factory wheels were like 5" wide with a +32 offset , it's a good gain.
lol, that car must get up and go... though I wouldn't have gone with those gtc wheels.. they give too much away. How funny would it be to waste someone off the line with 14" spoked hubcaps and whitewalls?! lol
So about the same time as I got the new tires, the car started burning a little oil. It wasn't puffing out the exhaust or anything, but I'd notice that when I'd come to a stop light or something, I'd see smoke floating up through the hood vent. Turned out that the Shelby valve cover had cracked, and it was bleeding oil onto the headers...dammit. Luckily, being the hoarder for rare turbo Dodge shit that I am, I had another stashed away, so on it went.
I pulled the bumpers to do some MUCH need surgery and remove about ...all of the open space between the bumpers and the body.
My buddy played with my SLR while I was ripping stuff apart and cutting up the bumpers:
More SLR shots from the garage session that have nothing to do with the build:

Lol the wheels are not THAT much of a give away but your point is still valid.
Chapter 5... or is it 6? whatever: "Body work… only 6 years after I planned to do it."
As I mentioned, I bought the car needing some body work. Over the next 6 years (especially during the dark days of Detroit) it acquired dents ...everywhere.
Big ass dent in the hatch:
Rivet holes from where a PO decided it needed extra side trim:
And the damage that was there when I originally bought it:
I pulled the front air dam and discovered that the lower valance was totally waffled and the pass front fender was warped as hell too! Annoyingly, the rad support is the front surface of the car (anyone with a mk1 VW can appreciate that) so fixing it isn’t as easy as something like a fender where I could just bolt on a straight replacement. Luckily I had a nice straight one that I had been hanging onto in case of emergency.
On the bright side there was no rust to deal with, which is a miracle considering we’re in Michigan.
