i picked up this 49cc 1987 motomarina sebring off a friend after posting on instagram that i was looking for an old moped project.after talking to him about it over the phone i agreed to pick it up for $50 because it did not run and had some rust on it from sitting inside of his shed for a long time.he told me that the moped was his fathers friend in highschool that crashed into something drunk and his parents gave it away to his dad because they didnt trust him with it.it came with no title but im going tomorrow to court with paperwork to see if i can get a new one for it.in new jersey you have to be 15 with a moped license to drive a moped but with a regular 17+ license you can ride it just as if its a bike
let me know what you think about it,ideas for it,your moped experience and anything relating to mopeds in general.
original

UPDATE 1
this is what it looked like the day i picked it up.
the moped did not run so i took the carburetor off and let it sit submerged in carburetor cleaner that was only 20$ or so,after the carb clean it started right up

got a new fuel line and in line fuel filter from home depot for $10 or $15

heres a skateboard montage my friend made that shows some footage of us riding it in the beginning.and him falling skitching it haha
UPDATE 2
i then decided to take off the plastic parts that covered the wires on the frame and also the mirror, turn signals and back metal holder piece to put stuff on above the back wheel

i also took off the motomarina sticker on one side of the bike because it was messed up and scratched,i plan on buying to pentagon style stanceworks sticker for the gas tank on both sides
took some with my camera

fuel line/bent forks and pedal

i cross taped my cracked headlamp

UPDATE 3
i got a pair of standard fixed gear/single speed handle bars off a friend for $20,the throttle and other side the brake slid right on

UPDATE 4
took off the front fender piece

UPDATE 5
grinded off the peices that held the unneeded plastic peices that covered the wires

my dad did one side and i did the other

we then put some body filler into the grinded spots to make it even
sanded the body filler down and then painted

i also bent the cranks straight and put on some new pedals from a bike i had laying around

and this is what the bike looks like as of tonight
