  • Project Da Red Rocket 2.0

I am not Austin Driggers who owned Da Red Rocket. Think of this build as a tribute or rebirth of one fine looking e28, but not totally the same in every aspect though. I may put a few personal twists on it, but I am going to make it as close to Austin's car as possible with a low budget.

So let's start with a little background on my car. It is a Zinnoberrot 1987 535is my dad bought me for $1,500 in return for lending money to buy another e28. The car currently has 237K+ miles, was owned by a bmw tech and it shows in the way it runs and drives. It was sitting for a while apparently, which probably resulted in some rust under the front windshield, you can see it if you look closely at the picture. I am hoping it will be easy enough to fix the hole at a body shop, I am just happpy there is no rust in the trunk though.

And here is what I want it to look like when I'm finished.

Not sure how you guys feel about plastidip, but this car will be done in gloss red plastidip with matte white wheels and black trim.

    Things I have so far:
-M system wheels with throwing star covers
    -Plastidip
    -Euro front bumper

Things I need and need done:
    -Euro rear bumper
    -Euro lights
    -GC coilovers
    -Custom euro plate
    -Brakes
    -Tune up
    -Body work
    -Exhaust

I think that's about it, hope y'all like it

    -Sam

          Project Da Red Rocket 2.0

It's been a long time since I updated this thread. There has been several set backs added on top of just being too busy to get any work done. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel though. My BC racing coilovers came in after waiting a month and I've had most of the front suspension components replaced, I got to drive it for a few days after getting it back from my mechanic and boy is it fast, loud and a pleasant ride minus the fact that there is no A/C Within the first drive I realized it was overheating (just had the temp gauge fixed) and couldn't figure out why because I replaced the thermostat on it recently after the old one blew up. So it's back at the shop now...

While I had it I took a few pics.

Yeah because they're mostly US model 535is. A few euro e28s came I'm red.
