  • 92 isuzu pickup budget build

ok. here we go. I havent had this truck too long now, but after a rapid series of mechanical repairs I really gained an attachment to it. So its time to do it up right. before the pics , a couple disclaimers...

    1. my camera is garbage. Im sorry, it seems like 1 out of every 100 pics turns out ok. its on my phone and body shop conditions have been hard on it.

    2. i know the thread title says budget build , but that doesnt mean im gonna build a shitty truck. Sure my finances are limited, but I have access to all the tools, plus a background in body and paint, and metal work. I just cant buy everything I need right now or maybe even real soon, but it will get there.

    anyways, here we are...

and yes, that is rattle can primer. I dont have a strong enough air compressor at home to run my air tools, so I pull the truck in on my lunch hour. Thats temporary until all the dents are fixed. I have a gallon of flat white epoxy primer that Im gonna use, but want to make sure its ready first. The cab is close though. the truck was pretty straight, A few dings here and there, and some waviness around the door handles. havent addressed that yet because Im not sure if I want to shave them or not.

This dent on the back was the worst.

I pulled out the majority with a stud gun, and dollied the rest as flat as I could for now. the bottom of the bed is rusted and split there, which makes its difficult to work with. the back lower bed corners are shot too. Im gonna make the patches, but I kinda put the bed on hold for now because its coming off in a week or so.

Beds coming off so i can get ready for this

Im excited. I made a custom trunk floor and welded it in a 38 oldsmobile in exchange for the 4 link kit. Gotta clean up the frame first, and need to find at least one wheel and tire I can use to figure ride height. It's got a pretty gnarly rust hole in the frame on one side where the old muffler was that needs fixed, and I gotta figure out how to relocate the gas tank. Im pretty sure its gonna be in the way. I cant afford a bag setup right now, so Im probably gonna run coilovers temporarily, or maybe longer. I wont be able to fit the wheels I want at the height Im going for until I flare the fenders, but that will happen pretty soon.

Thats all I got for today. Dont know how I didnt get pictures of the other side. ill take some more tomorrow.

Anyways, I hope ill be able to keep this thread interesting enough. And ill try to remember to post more pics of the bodywork in progress. I get in a rush on my lunch break and just focus on getting what i can done.

    Plans are:
    15x10 wheels with crazy stretch.

bringing out the flares to sit flush on the top of the rim

Air bags? (the minitrucker in me says I almost have to do it.)

Bodydrop? dont know until I see it low and with wheels on it.

front end redo. I wanna make a new grille and Im thinking round headlights. this truck really got me thinking. I dont want to copy it, so I have a few Ideas kicking around

^^ it's nice to have variety, as far as I know cole is the only mini on air on here right now and it would be nice to have another

lol. Im still undecided. It will be static for a while at least. I thought coil-overs would be a cheaper route, but looking quickly online, they seem pretty pricey. I work in a shop that does a lot of semis, and I could probably get everything I need for air ride off a totaled truck, other than a compressor and the bags themselves.

Are there any cheaper options as far as coil-overs go? I dont need any high end racing parts. at least not with my big whopping 92 horsepower motor.

got a few more pics. Welded up the pass side mirror holes today. Im leaving the drivers side on until I get whatever new mirrors I decide on. Again, my apologies for picture quality

                  quick coat of duraglass

the ole Hutchins 4560 makes quick work of it all

lol. shes looking good. for real though, almost all the cab dents have been taken core of, should be able to buzz it all down and get a real coat of primer on it soon,

Thats all I could get done at lunch today. had to get back on this beast.

oh yeah, almost forgot. I picked this up for free. should fit nicely behind the rear end and solve any problems that the stock tank would have caused with the four link

The biggest issue that makes me wanna do bags is that I really want the truck as low as possible. The idea with the bags, is to literally set the fender lips on the edge of the wheels when its aired out. I just think it would look absolutely killer. I cant do that with a static drop though, thats the dilemma.

This truck was really the biggest inspiration

I love it. When I saw it, I said i want that look, but lower. I figure 15's instead of the 16's he ran would bring it down a little more, Being able to lay frame with the fenders sitting on the rims, would just be the bees knees in my mind.

i got some thinking to do, but it looks like I could put together a bag setup for right around the cost of coil-overs.

Thanks! its getting there slowly but surely. the whole build pretty much centers around wheel fitment, so I gotta get at least one wheel and tire for mockup, Sucks though, because even when I do put the 4 link on and drop it, i wont be able to run the new wheels until the fenders are moved out. Oh well, that the process I suppose..

Not much got done today. I made a tuck shrinking tool so I can go ahead and fab up the replacement corner panels on the back of the bed. I figured might as well patch the rust on the bed and get the whole truck one color. Ill post up the process over the weekend. If i have time, I might get started on a roll pan.

heres the tuck tool. simple easy to make tool for shrinking custom panels. i need to make one with a deeper reach too.

Im having trouble with pics tonight, this shithead chewed the usb cord a little so I have had to jiggle it a bit.

Anyways I need Ideas about the sunroof. when I got the truck, the previous owner had spayed Flex-Seal all over it to keep it from leaking. Well that stuff doesnt work at all, so i wiped it all off with mineral spirits and put a new seal in it. the dilemma is it just looks like a shitty cheap sunroof kit(because it is) Do I patch the hole? or is there a better looking kit out there? ive never had a sunroof in anything before and I kinda like it. I just wish it wasnt so generic looking

I say either patch it up, or have a solid full glass roof,
Would be sooooo unique and would look badass at night/day

hmmm.... I could probably make one of Lexan. I know you can bend it with heat but I would need something a lot bigger than my heat gun. I think there is an option on the new mustangs for a glass roof. looks pretty sweet.
