Not posted anything on the car for a couple of weeks!
I gave it a chance to prove herself once again, and drive almost 1000miles (1600km) round trip to MIVW event in Holland.
The car was running great! I stopped an hour away from dover to fill up, and the Mrs shut her bag in the door, and managed to totally destroy my passenger door side pocket and speaker, ripping it from the door! All of the screw holes were broken! Needless to say i wasn't exactly in the best of moods afterwards and much abuse was given! I made it very clear to her that she would be buying me a new one, in mint condition just like the one she broke! haha!
Anyway, she made it all the way to Leiden in the Netherlands, trouble free!
As i was 18, now legal to drive in Europe, this was my first time driving there, and my first foreign show!
The show was awesome, by far the biggest show i had ever been to. The quality of the cars there were amazing!
Anyway, on the way back, i managed to leave my GTI petrol cap in Leiden like a fool!
I only noticed once i was half way through Belgium and needed to make a quick fix to prevent anything getting into the tank! Especially water as im sure it would be raining by the time i get back to England!
The morning after i was back i went straight out to GSF and got another petrol cap, just a standard one for the time being.
It made it! The little 1.1 litre, 4 speed 30 year old mk1 made it all the way, there and back with no mechanical problems, no hiccups or breakdowns! I was over the moon! Not bad ayy!?
The only thing that let me down was the interior fan motor - i guess it was not used to being on for 5 hours straight! I was investigate this at a later date as it was not that crucial.
Heres a coupe of pics from the drive!

I had always wanted a red GTI stripe around my front grill, but never committed to buying one.
The urge was too strong at MIVW so i got myself another complete grill and badge with a red GTI stripe!
The Mrs wasn't too happy about me using her tweesers to fit the metal stripe however, but i just reminded her about what she did to my door and she soon went quiet!
Heres a picture of it made up in the hotel room in Holland, and one of it on the car when i got back to England.

I had a look into the interior fan not working yesterday. I asumed it would have been a fuse as all 3 speeds just stopped working.
I checked all the fuses - all okay.
I tried a new switch - it did not work still.
Ill check the motor next when i get round to it, and then if its not that, it is probs going to be the resistor.
