  • Laguna blue Miata build

So here's a build thread I've been putting off posting for reasons explained in just a bit. Also there's going to be quite a bit of pictures.

It all began when i sold my E30 in order to buy something I've wanted for a rather long time. After searching for a while I eventually bought this:

Excited as hell I just wanted to get started with everything, but it had issues that needed fixing before anything else, rusted sills and a fender:

I had already decided that I would send the car off to get this fixed by a professional since I did not want to put my non-existant welding skills to the test with something like this.

Rest of the car was alright though, nothing too difficult to deal with atleast:

Obviously, not doing anything until the rust had been fixed was not going to happen so I began doing minor things:

Threw out this shitty non-factory carpet:

    Bought black stock carpets:

Jdm folding sun visors that do not get in the way as much as the regular ones do:

New shifter and handbrake gaiters (should look pretty cool once I get more interior stuff done):

At this point in time I decided to start on something bigger; the trunk. I don't have any before pics but here's where it's currently at:

And here's the color the trunk will be:

Want to keep it kinda dark and simple there and painting it the original color is too easy, hah.

This is where I sent the car off to get the rust sorted and this is why I've been putting off doing a build thread. I wanted to wait until I got it back and had some real progress to show. So I got it back the other day and I'm very happy with the result:

I'll be finishing this up myself, including a temporary and possibly half-bad paint job to cover up what's been done. In the same Laguna blue to match the rest of the car ofcourse.

I also have a new number plate panel waiting, currently plastidipped until I decide to get the car resprayed:

So that's where I'm at right now. I've got plenty of plans for this and I'm still as excited as I was when I bought it.

Current plans include getting any rust I can find sorted, finishing the trunk, frame rail reinforcement, starting on the interior, finding some wheels I like, etc.

Hope you guys will enjoy this atleast half as much as I am

      Yay update.

First things first, rearranged the ignition cables so theyre now sorta straight, new sparkplugs, rerouted some airbag cables that were in the way and removed the hood prop thingy:

      Before

Then i tossed out the antenna and plugged the hole:

And finally, new number plate panel:

      And it works:

I may or may not paint it laguna blue later, but for now I like it.

Planning on getting coilovers soon and hopefully some cool wheels that are not xxr or rota or anything like that.

Not the most interesting update but hey, it's a start.

So... tore some shit out last night.

          And then something exciting happened:

15x8,5" low something offset(or is that springlesprangle nowadays?)

note: I won't be running these wheels, they belong to my brother and were only used to test the size.

So I got some wheels coming my way..

Drawing is not entirely representative of actual wheel.

Unfortunately they need wider lips before they go on the car so will probably take a while before the car is actually sitting on them.

Also will be posting some pictures and stuff this weekend because things are actually happening, believe it or not.

So, wheels are in Sweden now, I'm hoping they will show up next week atleast, that would be fun.

So, here's some stuff that happened:

                    Tidied up some cables

Reinforced a frame rail, other one will be done soon

                    Washer bottle

License plate that isn't screwed to the bumper itself

And, today I decided to install the stereo. I really don't like doing sound related stuff and ran into many problems with this. So I wrote a little guide to help other miata owners with this:

                    - - -

How to install a stereo in a mk1 Miata:

                    1. You don't.

                    - - -

                    And here's my result:

                    Basically, nothing wanted to cooperate.
Which is okay for now because the door cards are so fucked around the speaker areas that I can't even attach my new ones.

So until I make new door cards (yes I will make them) and install sound stuff I'll just have to sing Girls just want to have fun without Cyndi Lauper backing me up.

So it's finally time for something exciting, you see, it turned out the wheels I bought are welded from factory. Or atleast three of them are... the fourth one met the angle grinder.

                        So here's what I'm thinking:

This is 15x9" ~et7, which is the plan for the rears atleast, I may or may not go 15x8,5" in the front.

I also kinda finished my door cards, all that's missing is some door pulls, which will come once I find some screws that works (because for some reason they were attached with 4 different ones)

I'm very happy with the results considering it's my first time doing something like it and I think it will look real good with the rest of the interior done.

That's neat with the wheel there what you did.

I like the progress so far, and really like those wheels.

Right, so I bought another set of wheels.

                              Hell yeah Borbet!

                              Oh but these aren't Borbets.

Yeah, I went and bought some boring RM's (but who doesn't love RM's, right), way cheaper then finishing the Enkei's, for now.

So yeah, now I just gotta stop being lazy and get shit done.
