  • l0wb00st's RHD JDM Evo 7

First off let me say that I know this isn't usually the kind of car that goes on this site. But it was featured on stanceworks a few months ago, so I guess its good enough

I'll Also be posting a thread for my DD in a month or so. I don't have any pictures yet, but it involves an E90 335d, Air, and Work Wheels

A little Back story on the evo:
I used to drive a 2008 Evo 10, but in August 2010 I was in a bad accident on my motorcycle (a Triumph Daytona 675) and I suffered many injuries, the biggest being a total loss of movement in my right arm. Since my Evo X was manual, and I couldn't move my right arm anymore, I couldn't drive it. I thought I would have to give up driving stick for the rest of my life... One day I saw a friend on facebook post a picture of her friends' right hand drive evo. I immediately got the idea to bring over a car from the uk, or japan.

My original plan was to bring over an Evo X FQ400, however, I had no idea what had to be done to get one imported. I asked my friend to talk to the guy with the Evo 7 about what I needed to do to import the car. He said, "my wife is 7 months pregnant, and I need to get rid of one of my toys, do you want to buy it?" to which I replied "SOLD!"

This is one of only a handful of cars that have a manual trans that I can drive, in this country. I love getting into this thing and being able to drive a manual car again. After being without one for almost a year, I get a big grin on my face every time I get in the car

So the car is a real, JDM Evo 7. The First Evo brought to the US was the 8 (as a 2003 model) The JDM cars have ACD (Active Center Diff) which was available on 2005+ US Evos. The JDM Evos also has AYC (Active Yaw Control) US cars didn't get AYC until the Evo X's in 2008.

Awesome man, I was actually going to say something to you about devo2ning, until I saw your signature haha.

I see them all the time at Rt. 66 dragway and sometimes in Indiana doing test and tunes.

I remember your feature a while back! Beautiful car and I am glad that you get to drive what you enjoy once again.

Been considering either an evo or a genesis coupe, and the only evo in my budget are high mileage 03's.
So this is different because the AYC and the center diff? How different is this compared to an open front diff 03' evo 8 handling wise?

Also, how is this street legal, I thought under show or display, it has to be on the list, or the vehicle has to be over 25 years of age with a USDM smog legal motor.

You only have the use of your left arm, AND you track your car. You sir, are a gangster.

          Thank you!
the main differences between the US and Japanese evos are the bumpers, headlights/taillights, all Japanese Evos from the 4 on have AYC. There are a lot of other small differences too, but those are the main things. The difference with and without AYC is huge. The best way I can describe it is that with the AYC it can turn tighter and faster than you think it can. I was in northern GA, in the windy mountain roads. I was driving pretty fast, and came to a turn that was a lot tighter than i though, I just turned the wheel tighter, and it turned like i was going 10mph. Its hard to describe, but you think you're close to the limit, and then AYC kicks on and you realize you're nowhere near the actual limit.

The car was all legalized when I bought it from the previous owner, I don't really know the details of how it was done. I register it like a regular car. I still have to do emissions testing every year (or however often IL does testing now)

Thanks! It's really not as hard as most people think, you just have to get used to it. Getting used to writing with my left hand was 10x harder, and it still is hard. my handwriting is worse than a 6 year old's

                              That exhaust note <3

Glad to see you can enjoy your hobbies after an accident like you had. I have a friend that lost a leg in a motorcycle accident and you'd never know it by the way he lives. He absolutely shreds the mountain on one ski to the point where it's hard for me to keep up with 2 skis.

                              Huge props to you man.
