My $1,000 BMW 328is Build Thread

Maybe you've seen my Miata build, here. But this time I am here to showcase my $1,000 1996 328is. She's a fully loaded 5-speed with 242,000 miles. I picked it up before the snow started to fall and beat the ever living crap out of it.







Now that the snow has melted and summer is here, I finally give her some much needed attention. She came with some nasty purple Walmart tint and some fake carbon fiber vinyl on the roof which I don't have any pictures of. I couldn't stand it and ripped most of it off in the middle of winter (not my smartest idea).

Winter took a real toll on her...




Then I got some new wheels... staggered LTW's.








That lasted all of 2 or 3 weeks. Then I traded them for these 17x8.5" Kosei K1's. Both of my cars match




And now we're up to speed. What you don't see in those last photos is a silver K1 wheel on the other side of the car. When I traded them, he said one of the black ones cracked and he replaced it with a new one, but never got it painted. Didn't bother me, I would color match it eventually. Well, a few days ago another one of the black ones sheared 3 spokes clear in half. So, I had to throw the spare on and now I'm not sure where I can get another one. Hopefully I can pick a used one up or something, but until then, it's passenger side is going to look janky.

Not sure how it happened. Just noticed a weird grinding/squeaking noise coming from the rear. Had my girlfriend roll it down the road and found it coming from the rear wheel. Looked closer and 3 spokes had cracked all the way through. The rim was still held together because of the other spokes, but I wasn't going to risk driving it.

I'll get some pictures of it this weekend.

I love the K1's, survived tons of abuse on my Miata for 4 years. Maybe because the ones on the Bimmer were powdercoated and weakened? I'm not sure.

If anyone knows where I can buy another one, let me know.

It was tons of fun, and I love the way it looks. Especially with the M3 bumper and wheels.

I'll be investing in some winter tires this time around though... if I keep it that is.

K1's don't crack so easy. Sounds like he had a wreck and maybe covered up the damage on one wheel and replaced the other so he could sell/trade them.

Very possible. He did tell me when he stopped by that he smashed one of his M3's into a guard rail at some point.

You get what you pay for. I actually didn't pay $1,000 for it. I spend $1,000 on a Jeep Cherokee which I traded straight up for this. I thought I put that in the body, but I guess not.

In this case, it got me a rusty ass 328is with 242,000 miles. Door cards falling off and headliner sagging. Nothing to write home about, but fun none-the-less.
