Changed to a standard steering wheel, thanks to TomRich who kindly donated one to me. Needed a clean and it came up nicely. Cleaned it with this sponge thing from JML that my friend gave me. Worked great and took the shine out of it. So much nicer to drive with it but looks massive to me in comparison to the 280mm.
And some bonus pictures after a good clean for the mk2 owners club national meet
Ive also developed a couple of problems:
The odometer has stopped working. Although the speedo still works. Maybe a gear has fallen off inside or something. Any guides out there?
Have a strange starting problem. Turns over for a few seconds without firing and then eventually fires up and idles perfectly. Doesn't seem to be specifically a "cold" start problem because I have tried immediately turning it off after it fires and then waiting a few seconds with the key out before turning it over again. And it fires straight back up. I have timed and hour after turning it off. Again after not letting the engine get even remotely hot. And it doesn't fire again like before. Then timed half an hour after that. And it still didn't fire but it took less cranking time to fire. This makes me think that the fuel lines aren't holding pressure. Not sure.Last edited by LukeyBabes; 08-12-2013, 04:44 PM.

I feel like I did loads today but achieved very little.
Tried to do some more fault finding on my starting problem. Don't think I learnt a lot.
And my air con isn't working!Think its leaking. But there is defiantly still pressure. The pump and fan still engage and the pipes seem to be getting cold, but no cold air. ugh.
But I did fix the odometer. Had to replace the unit in my clocks. as one of the cogs was just spinning on the shaft instead of turning. Also learnt how easy it would be to roll back the milage in mk2s. As you can see in one of the pics I had some fun and set the old unit to 0 miles. But i was a good boy and set it to the same milage first.
Then I took some switches apart to clean up.

Small issue with me replacing the unit. Think its to do with the return spring on the top of it.
My speed is out of calibration. Anyone got any info on calibrating it properly? Or know somewhere that can do it? Instead of be just guessing and trying positions loads of times?
This is me doing 70mph according to satnav.
