  • Steve the Sierra Sapphire

Hey, just wanted to post my project up on here as i havnt actually done one for my car, its been alot of work and effort. and ultimatly short lived as ill probly be buying somthing different due to unfortnate circumstances .

heres how i bought him, completely standard and in rather good condition! -

The original plan was to put some Fiesta ST alloy wheels on and some Cosworth bumpers -

My friend then lent me his Superlite wheels for a car show

and i fell in love. i knew i had to get some Dish of my own and some Lows.

coilovers were bought and after searching ebay for some cheap wheels, i noticed that alot of "Dishy" wide wheels from big 4x4's were quite cheap. So with alot of optimism and naivety i bought my self a set of Suzuki Vitara Alloys wheels for dirt cheap!

The plan was to Re-drill but that plan soon went out the window when i realised how HUGE the centre bore was on the suzuki wheels. so after a few emails back and forth to G23 Engineering, some custom Hub Adaptors were orderd to take my suzuki wheels from 5x139.7 to 4x108.

after the adaptors arrived test fitting began and soon realised that i was going to need some big stretch on tyres and some wide arches.

So some 165/45 tyres were orderd

and just about fitted! (the suzuki wheels are 15x8 i should point out).

after test fitting the wheels with the tyres, it was clear that some major arch work was needed. especially as the steering wheel couldnt even turn!

after some very proffesional work, to the highest standard was completed with the old baseball bat. it was time to get some "JDM" / "JUN"/ "Drift" arches and put it all togethor.

with the Jap wheels, the "JDM arches" and the general goal for the car to be a head turner. it was time for a Bosozoku style Oil Cooler on the front bumper

and this is where my project has to unfortantly stop
with future plans already set in motion for a 24v Cosworth engine (already purchased) and a Bosozoku Style vertical exhuast. the project has come to an abrupt end after a running with the Police and them not being as enthusiastic about the Modifications as i am.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed and heres a few more pictures of Steve the Sierra. Goodbye old friend

Police said the amount of stretch on the tyres is dangerous. i cant run any bigger tyres with out rubbing on the bumper/ sills

i tought i had seen everything that could be done to sierras , and then this comes along! fair play, its crazy!

on stanceworks no one blinks an eye to tyre stretch, but to be fair your stretch is very extreme and i can see how your average policeman might give his know it all mechanical assesment as it being too much and unfortuantly what they say goes.

a policeman one told me my -30mm lowered e30 shouldnt be on the road because the back axel is 'completely bent'

i would sugest going to 195 /40 tyres and try again.
the 40 profile sidewalls will be a lot straighter but still much smaller diameter

Don't listen to what policeman say when it comes to a vehicle, follow the automotive rules set by the professionals. Cops don't know half of what their looking at and most of the time they are wrong, they are a policeman not an engineer. Its a common thing here in NZ where people have to get their fines removed because the police was wrong.

whats the problem with extreme stretch? besides beads slipping, (which i don't find dangerous) can be harmful to motorists? and bead slipping is occasional, depending on stretch...

looks a bit silly imo. i understand that you want dish, but if you had some wheels that would fill a bit more on the inside too. no wonder you had to get "jdm archer" when you`re running ghetto bronx offsets
haha no **** man, i just think they look a bit skinny

He said that becuase the edge of the rim was so exposed that it would hurt a pedestrian more than a wheel that had a tyre that fitted properly

yeah i agree with you on the skinny-ness/ offset. does look a little odd when looking at it from head on or from the rear. but overall im pretty happy with how the car looks

You sir got some balls. Looks a little bit weird but pretty cool. Hope you can manage to legalize it. Cops are always a pain in the ass. Don't have the right knowledge to judge the car in front of them and constantly talk crap hiding behind their badge.
