  • This is coming out really well.

I wouldn't expect any less from you.
    Craftsmanship at it's best.

    • Keep up the good work, looks great!

You can probably find a castle nut that works at Fastenal (click) or McMaster-Carr if you know what the size and pitch of the thread is.

Appreciate it, dude. I really hope it winds up as good as I have pictured in my head.

Thanks, Jon. That is my next plan of attack, unfortunately the Fastenal in town is full of window-lickers. I suppose I could order online, though.

Thanks anyways, Darren, but I managed to find some scrounging through some toolboxes at work.

Pretty good update, front suspension is on. We've also got the back-half partially welded on. Levelling and squaring everything out on a concrete floor that is less than flat is very time consuming, but we managed. We've also got the engine and transmission in so that driveline height can be measured and we can build the 4-link crossmember to suit. Tonight the crossmember will be designed, and by the end of the week I'll have the lasered pieces and it should be somewhat assembled.

Numerous bottle jacks and widow-makers were used to level everything, useful beyond words.

Today's casual racist comment has been brought to you by the letter 4.

Because N would just be in poor taste.

                          • You guys are silly.

Minor update, fucked away a lot of time last night. We pulled pretty much two straight all-nighters. I've had 4.5 hours of sleep since Saturday. Last night did not go well. We located the rear axle at ride height to allow us to figure out where the maximum drive shaft height will be while laid out, and from there we could design the 4-link crossmember and 4-link itself.

My brain was basically shut off most of the night, so it took far longer to get the pinion angle/wheelbase/ride height set than it should ever. We got it done, though.

                            Ta-da

We spent quite a while designing a front crossmember, but again, lack of sleep was a severe factor and it seemed no matter what we drew up it looked stupid in the truck. The next few days over Christmas will allow the sleep to be caught up and we'll go at it with fresh minds Thursday.

                            • For the record, I should note that that is a 25.5" tire, I'll be running a 29.1" tire to start (255/70/15). Ride height was set for the running board mounts to be 3/4" off the ground. I'm not sure how much lower the running boards themselves hang, but I figure they'll wind up somewhere around 1/2" off the ground at ride height.

                              • Are you going to run a 1 piece drive shaft or two piece?
When in doubt, cut it out...
