  • Windith The 77' Standard Beetle (mini build)(slow build)

    Hello Stance works Peeps!
My name is Trenton and I reside in the pacific northwest more specifically Washington. After lurking stance works for quite sometime I thought it was in my best interest to start a build thread for my 77.

    So the story begins
I first started becoming infatuated with air cooled vws at a young age. My dad always bragged about the numerous amount of bugs that he went through throughout his life and when he finally rekindled his passion for them by bringing home a 77 dark purple standard, I knew that when my time came i would carry on the tradition. During the end of sophomore year my father and I decided on my first car which was 1302 beetle that had numerous paint chips rust spots and everything else, but none the less she was my baby. A year or two passed when suddenly a opportunity arose. One of my father's closest friends Mr.H was moving and he had far too many cars to take with him. Just my luck he decided to leave his dark blue mint condition 77' behind for someone to purchase. Having ridden in this car only once previously i remembered the experience and the impact it had on my decision to travel down the air-cooled vw path. It had a nice exhaust, paint, engine, and interior at a price that i couldn't refuse. So during the end of my junior year of high-school the dark blue 77' came into possession. For a year i drove the car how it was monster truck height, aged tint, eyelids, bf Goodrich white lettered tires and other period accessories of 90's. My high school experience ended and during last summer i decided to lower the car a bit. Drop spindles were fitted with 135 tires up front. I drove around for awhile like that with a fair amount of rake and wheel gap. At the start of this year the car started to have quite a few problems. The carb needed a rebuild, the alternator died, the fuel lines were all messed up, the transmission was bad. The amount of problems the car had in a short sequence was frustrating, but i got through it. Once all of these problems were solved i finally fitted the rear with new tires and leveled the car.... and here we are today..

    My Old Super

    When i first got her

    Spindles in the front

    Another Pic

Leveled with new tires out back

    Already done
    -Spindles
    -disc brakes up front
    -1835cc
    -engle cam
    -progressive weber
    -merged headers
    -redone interior
    -quietpack exhuast
-i know i forgot some stuff but owell

    Plans
Plans are pretty simple for this build
-I plan on taking her to get her beam narrowed and adjusted early june
-Get some spots resprayed where the paint has chipped
    -New merged header/quiet pack exhuast
    -I really want phone dials
    -Maybe upgrade to twin webers
    - nothing too extreme considering shes my only car and i daily her

Anyways thanks for looking. Any advise or suggestions are always welcome.
    -Trenton

Read the whole story man, it's cool that you are carrying on a tradition. How does your dad feel about dropping the bug?

Thats how my mom was when I came home and my car was on coilovers. She is warming up to it after a year or so though hahaha, she still can't believe its the same car she drove for 6 years before I got it.

I am going to subscribe to this thread because I can relate.
