  • Gifted 1963 Mercedes, need help identifying

Just came across this with title, been sitting in a backyard for a while, actually got it running with some gas n carb play.

Thinking about cutting the springs, just doing some half assed body work, and spray it.

The vin on the title is only 14 digits long, google is failing me in identifying the model, any Benz heads out there that can help would appreciate.

      W114.

by the looks of it, it needs more tan just a spray and cut springs. all the lines probably rotted and needs replaced.

        ^Nope . W108 more than likely a 250 or 280

Replace fuel lines, remove them first and disconnect tank. Tank will more than likely be shot. As long as the floors are semi-intact slam it and drive it. No paint necessary. The headlight bezels will be expensive, but luckily bumpers and tailight are still there. Also if its the inline 6 it will more than likely have the dual Zeniths, which are some of the most pain in the ass carbs in the world. imo. But theyre amazing when theyre perfect and synced together perfectly.

I had a w114 that looked much like that but had zippo for floors. The carpet is thick enough to stand on though. I drove it one winter then scrapped it.

Activity is not on my list of activities.

It has dual lamps (top and bottom) on each side, just most of the housing is missing. Look carefully in the pics. I have a w114, and a w115. Also have worked on quite a few w108s. Im positive its a w108 although model is of question.

Mushroom_Toy, is right, this is a W108. It's a late 1966 - early 1967 car. So it is either a 250S or 250SE. You mention that you have 14 digit VIN number. This is your chassis number and it is 14 digits long.

You chassis number should look something like this

                108 012 12 000001

                108 means W108
                012 with 108 means 250S

12 means Left hand drive, automatic. Since your car is manual you will have 10 instead of 12

                000001 is your serial number

Check the first 6 digits of your chassis code and you will know your exact model

Forgot to mention. It is a European market model with the non-halogen single lens headlights

Thats because they are euro lights, for sure a W108. I would almost put money on it that this is a 250 model [also take note that the rear license plate light is on the bumper and not on the body to accept the longer euro plates], judging from the pics, the body looks like a great candidate for a resto, minus the fact that a lot of parts are missing.

Euro lamps can be a bit pricey, cheaper to get them in Europe, might cost you on the shipping [don't know if you live state side]. Since it looks like you still have the frame and guts for the passenger side light, you may only need the headlamp lens. Troll around and look for a junkyard, you may get lucky if you decide to fix it up, if anything, get that poor car out of the grass. Neat find!

you def have a 250S, more than likely a late 60's model, someone may have fudged up on your title. You may have a 68 going on the fact that your serial number is 030118.

Wicked, hubcaps look early but I don't know what year etc. What I know is that missing parts cost a lot, if its salvageable try to find a cheap donor/swap meet parts to complete

                            Good luck!!

Like lewda said, you got yourself a 250S. It has a carbureted M108 engine.
Looking at the pictures more carefully I'd say your car is 1967. It was built somewhere between March and September. Pop the hood and check identification plates. They are on the radiator support.
