  • Does anyone think this 1988 Corolla has potential?

I'm looking to start a build here pretty soon and I was wondering what you guys think of this?

Mileage isn't over 200k which is kinda tight, and of course it's gonna need some work. It's super cheap and I think I've got a decent enough budget to make it look and run pretty sweet. Think it would be worth it?

i'd look into the details of how easy it is to modify and get parts for, if you can find the model number maybe try searching on it on Yahoo Japan Auctions to get a feel for it's aftermarket support etc.

but its a cool shape and would work well with a Shakotan sort of look

I would rock it. My main suggestion is to get acquainted with photoshop; take that photo, do whatever you want in photoshop, see how it turns out! Gives you a good idea without going and spending all the cash just to find out it doesn't turn out how you thought.

But hey, that with some SSR meshes or equally cool oldschool rims in spastic offset lowered to the floor would look awesome I think. Plus the old corollas use no fuel and are simple to work on. If I found one cheap enough I would buy it but it's all up to you and what you want out of a car.

Awesome dude thanks for the tip, and that's what I was thinking too. It's got a sunroof and a few other options that weren't available for the SR5 model so I think it might be a GTS. Which might make this a pretty awesome find actually.

That's good to know that it's a pretty simple car to work on though just because it would be my first build and all. I think I might call to check it out and if I can confirm if it's a GTS then I might just hop on and get started.

I know this is such a newbie question to ask but how much does it generally cost to stance a car out?

oh god that just makes me feel like such a dork hahaha.

That's the thing about it too is it's got 177k miles. That's not too bad for a car that old.

lol. if you add my my wheels and suspension alone I think I'm right around 3k.

I'd say buy it. Looks like it could be a pretty cool car if done right.

That's not too bad actually. After getting the car I'd probably have 8-10,000 to work with so this could turn out pretty well.

Shit, if you had 8-10k leftover I don't know what you're waiting for. You could do a lot of shit with that. Wheels, suspension, motor swap, and maybe even paint if you can do all the work yourself.

This is all good news lol. I'm really thinking about it but the only catch for me is to do the build it would have to become my daily driver and that's a lot of commitment to put into a 24 year old car compared to what I've got now. Which I admit what I have now isn't the best, but its still such a new car idk.

... ae92's are the best FWD toyota ever made.

In stock JDM form, they are on par with the ae111, if not better.

You should go with a 4agze and a levin front end with the shorter JDM rear bumper, then slam it on some SSR reverse meshies.

So next question would be: Do you guys think it would be worth trading in my current daily to do all of the work to this Corolla?

And also what other options would I have for a swap?
