good luck this weekend, i really jealous of your cars and workplace, the only race parts i have laying around at work are all my dads leftover kart parts. when your car had a dent on the fender, what sticker was that?

Thank you to both of you. The car sounds exactly how I had hoped. I had it running today, but I had an issue with the Porsche HFM. I think I have it figured out thanks to my friend Geoff, so we'll see tomorrow. I posted a link to the video so you can hear what it sounds like.

Sorry, but the Dinan exhaust isn't mine. It was just there since we were doing a clutch on a customers car.

We finished everything Friday and I did the final oil change after a few miles for break in Friday at Midnight. I was able to make it to the track Saturday morning and overall I'm very happy with the car. It is much faster than it used to be and the car pulls like a train from 4500rpm. The tune needs a lot of work and the car won't idle, but I'm hoping to work that out.

Then during the last session of the day I entered turn one with smoke billowing out of the back of the car and no power steering. It turns out the brand new genuine BMW powersteering hose I installed two days earlier had failed.



Fortunately I had some awesome friends at the track who helped me with some tools an a hose clamp. This meant the car would still be good for Redline the next morning.



Sunday started out smooth, but the track was slow and I had no grip. On top of that I gave this engine one hell of a break in with a few revs higher than I had liked and a couple of cooling issues.
The icing on the cake was when I went off in turn 9 (scariest corner in SoCal) at around 90mph after a brake issue, and lost a turn signal haha. Besides the power steering hose, the car performed very well.


The weekend was a success overall. I managed to win my class in the BMW competition, and took second by a few tenths in Redline. All of this was on the slowest tire available for that class and no ltw wing since it wasn't ready on time.


Now it's time to get back to the drawing board and figure out how to make it faster! You can be sure that there will be lots of development during the rest of the year on the way to Super Lap Battle.

Awesome! It's always the last run of the day that gets you. Love the picture after the off...racing patina! Looks like you guys had pretty decent weather (i.e., not 117 degrees)--a nice surprise. What's the next upgrade?

I picked up my LTW wing on Tuesday after working on a bit of weight loss in the rear.

Here it is mocked up with the gurney flaps taped on.


Yesterday I mounted it.
Here it is getting lined up and figuring out where to drill the holes.


A half hour later it was mounted


I'm not the biggest fan of the LTW wing, but I actually like it on sedans and like the way it looks from the rear. I'm limited to use this wing for Redline, but I'll have another aero package for Super Lap Battle.

My fog deletes came back and I picked up another set of corners so my car won't look janky any more haha. I'll be putting those in this weekend along with a new master cylinder and reinforcing the rear subframe sway bar mounts.

I _does_ work on a sedan, doesn't it? It will be really interesting to see how if influences your lap times. Couple of questions: what kind of cooling issues were you facing--just normal shakedown issues, or something else? Can you tell us more about the off on 9? Any learning points? ...off to watch Le Mans now...

Like I said about your 911, I love that you actually race your cars as opposed to just driving around slowly with a bunch of power add-ons. I respect that so much. Keep up the great work too!

you should def mount the gurney flap! love the look of those. especially on this car because of the red/black textured/red breakup it has goin on

I noticed you still have the back seats in. Have you thought about taking them out? And also fully stripping the rear out including all the sound deadening?

Less weight is always good.

Love the exhaust set up will be looking into something similar myself for my 323.
