  • Doloris the E30 and my journey of getting along with her

    Hi there,

well as you can see I'm here for some time, but I preferred to sneak around like that creepy guy in the bushes. Now i decided to give my Lori her own 'build-thread'.

    This is she:

Build on 01/26/1988 with an M40B18 and some amazing 113hp, i got her in May 2010 on different wheel sets with too small tires.
There was a lot of stuff that had to be done.

BTW here's the bucket i drove before, 92er Opel Astra with facelift bumpers, slight lowering springs and a set of rare Rial wheels with polished lips.

First thing to do was changing the camshaft, including the lifters, shorter dampers and some springs, brakes and at least a set of matching wheels.

But Karma hit first and this happened

Some Guy in his Opel Corsa had hit me while turning…

After a week she looked like this

Not that much space under her skid plate … but thats just because of the small tires.

So the rear shelf was crap too, my buddy and i decided to build our own

I think it came out pretty nice and you can also take the top off.

The speakers fitted perfectly in the windowlifter-holes because i have electric lifters.

Got those 16inch centras from a friend for free and i had let some company fix them

    Now add some blue color…

    and tires:

    Voila!

some pics shot with a real camera

here's a pic with a friend of mine

his e30 sits on a 17" set of ATS DTC Tourenwagen-Racings

The next year, 2011, i got kinda sick of my blue wheels

got a roof rack and a rustless red trunk

    one blue wheel 'survived'

Around Easter i snatched up some beaten up IS-lip… but no problem for the zippies

remember that white e30 from above? had a little colission; is hulk now

Two weeks later i blacked my lip

    and that one night I couldn't sleep…

i repainted my style 5's with fresh paint

oh Doloris you beaten up kind of an E30

The summer Wheels got repainted, too

    wheel swap 2012:

got a new steering box, too

Some Prick stole my IS-lip one night… but i found some cheaper replacement

Now it's time to get rid of that crappy Diamantschwarz… this is now temporary for some time

    ghetto paintjob

    i got new fenders, too

Now the motor blew up… but i got one with low mileage... sorry… i mean kilometers in exchange. Another M40B18 from a cab with automatic tranny.
changed the clutch, transmission and the driveshaft at the same time.

    Done

    Brace yourself winter was coming!

Here are the latest pics of 2013

    volvo-lip is back on

    at 6am in the morning

Lets see where get with her... looking forward for some new wheels this year.

      it's been a while...

finally i emptied my piggybank and got some new wheels
here they are: Schmidt Revolution Modern Line 7,5x16 +20 in the Front and 9x16 +15 in the Rear

since i had never owned some 9" wheels i immediately went outside, testfitting the rears.
i had to improvise with two rocks and a blanket

      definitely needs more low
i haven't took a pic, but i repainted my grille, too.

      taken through the rear window

it's a few days ago but: met with a friend...

well, the next step is buying some tires for the rear wheels, certainly 225/40s and get all of them mounted

          mounted up

so i was back in my hometown last weekend and despite the fact that i cut myself with a dried hard bread roll while feeding the fishes, i finally mounted the wheels

fortunately i already had bumpstops in the rear, everything has enough space. even in the front it looks much better now, but i don't know if i should roll my fenders for TÜV because it sits pretty tight

this it what it looks like. still some paint on the tires

the ground is not that even so it looks a bit like offroad in the back

and to correct myself: the wheels are from the 90's and the 9" has an offset of 20

i will take some more pictures of how it sits in the near future. my next plans are derusting the doors, refreshing the stone skip at the skirts and the paint of the front bumper and valence. and of course finally buff out the whole thing (if i just had a buffing machine )

              thank you very much

i think it would even look a lot better with new fresh bolts and some center hub caps. maybe i will buy originals like here:
or some blank flat caps with some bmw stickers (or the 4chan happy face if it wouldn't look that silly )

New wheels look very nice. Not sure about the paint job, but the rest of the car is good.

                  Well thanks :P

To be honest i'm actual not sure about it, too. For now it may be acceptable, but i'm saving already for all the bodywork and a real paint job without rattle cans

Nice update. Love those wheels. What are the tire specs (brand, model, sizes)?

                      How did i forget that.

Front tires are Rotex RS02 in 205/45/16
Rear tires are Toyo Proxes in 225/40/16

I had the choice to mount 215/40 instead of 225/40 though it seems to be the more common size on an E30. But I chose the wider ones because they're the official minimum width for a 9" wheel where I don't need a wheel assessment here in Germany and they have a more equal diameter compared to the front tires and/or the stock 15" mesh wheels.

It's not much, but today I polished the chrome trims. They were filthy because I build my own "shadow line" trim with sealing tape. But it got loose at its ends and I thought of getting rid of it; going for chrome (although I don't like chrome that much). To sad there was a lot of glue left, attracting all the dust and transforming to some disgusting sticky stuff. Well, I polished it as good and far as I could. Now I don't feel my thumb anymore but it was worth it

                          passenger side, before/after

                          driver side, before/after

And after that I cleaned the windows from the inside and the dashboard.

                            and nothing happened...

So, yeah, as I promised, I went out for some more photos. Drove for a while through the city and it just stopped with raining. Found this nice Scrapyard, but the streets there are horrible. The weather was bad and when i finally headed through my door back home, the stupid sun came out.

I also changed the black kidneys with my chrome ones. Think it comes along nicely with the trims.

And of course I had to put on my roof rack

I really don't understand the roof rack thing. It looks always stupid.
