I have a few questions that no one has been able to answer for me, and I am hoping you can help me. How bad are the stock s13 brakes, and how hard was the wiring for the sr20det? Some insist that the wiring isn't too bad, but I've seen wiring diagrams and it's just plain confusing. I'm planning on getting a pignose coupe and swapping in a ca18det, and I've heard that the wiring between the two is very similar.

the wiring is really quite simple. match the wires for the ecu plug(you'll need the dual cam ka one on the chassis side), take the engine harness to chassis harness to plug from your old ka engine harness and match the colors. The stock brakes are ok with good pads, but Z32 rotors and calipers are common upgrades for the front, as is going z32 rear.

only had it in there with the straight 30 i used for the first 20 mins of run time, better to waste a cheap filter. I use either purolator, wix or bosch normally. thanks for the concern!

    Got to sorting the interior.

    Gauges n shit

I have since installed the column plastics and the knee bolster.

And the replacement wheel came in. Thankful that my sponsor, Neutron Coatings, could get it done to match the rest of my wheels. Porsche Silver, wassup!

Tires and turbo tomorrow. Got to drain my intercooler too, it has alot of oil in it...

Thanks man! Things come back in full circle, etc.

My e30 touring is off the road for the time being. I have the interior apart, to clean and restore a few items. This winter I'll be tearing into the suspension, to replace all the bushings/ball joints etc.

    here is the build thread so far on it;

good read, and a good message here.

    Car isn't bad either
    any more on your E30?

totally agree with the budgeting things you spoke of in that interview, I've found the longer a project takes the cheaper it gets. The trade off is how long you're willing to wait.
Friendships help too, I've also found you get what you give. The more generous you are with sharing/giving parts so will others; well mostly anyway.

Got it running, and put it on the road.

Got it aligned, and began my break in procedure.

Third day on the road, I mis judged a 90* turn, and put my pass rear into a curb.

    I broke:
    Traction arms
    Rear upright
    Rear wheel
    Rotor
    Axle
    Diff

and bent the LCA,ruca and traction arms. Subframe made it out fine, and I put in a new ball joint and rear wheel bearing for good measure. I replaced all the arms(both sides) with the oem stuff I had kept for times like this. No pics of that. Car felt great that entire night though, pure driver error.

I can't adjust it anymore since I've installed the SPL eccentric lockouts, but with the corrected geometry from the SPL risers, the rear camber and toe in were very close to where i had it aligned to anyway.

    1.5* camber, 0.4* toe in.

But here it is after the crash! (about 6 weeks ago)

Here's a vid of the exhaust note.

But monday night (9/9/13) was a sad night for me. I was on the highway and my HKS turbo called it quits. 15 miles from my house, it came on and off of boost intermittently, and then stopped boosting. And then smoke, then death howl and a nasty sound when it tried to make boost.
but I'm not too upset, not bad for a used turbo that I got for 100 bucks and a pair of wheels.

But the Garrett GT2560r to replace it is ordered up and eta is 2 weeks.

Evan made up a coil pack cover

    Fitted an ISIS radiator

Turns out my old one had a daughter board, and the tune on that rom went to shit.
That ecu came from this guy. This was before I knew about all his previous transgressions.

And ordered another E5 ecu for my car, for a damn steal too.

Also got the floor pan repaired, and put some heat insulation down.

Lovin' this build. I have a lot of respect for college student budget builds. Probably because I'm undergoing my own. Secondhand parts, hours on craigslist, all of that to fuel your passion.
