  • E28 535is in Massachusetts

    So I decided to keep my e28. This is my first build thread.
    For starters, it's an 87 535is with incorrect wheels and a false M badge. Taking that off asap...It reads 69799 on the odometer but said odo is also broken so I have my doubts.
    Anyways this is my fourth car now. Starting with an 03 crv, lol, then a mk4 2.0, then this 24v;

    But then I got the e28. Which I like. And hope to keep for more than a year;

    ^That picture was taken in November of this past year, it's now March. And the car looks like this;

    I don't want to say this is going to be a "slow build," that will discourage myself. But it won't be fast. I'm 18 years old and am a senior in high school. I also only have one job right now. Barista. Yeah.

          Barista you say? I'm going to assume that you spell every name incorrectly from now on.

          E28 looks cleannn.

            Updates;
            So I've been in contact with a BMW collector/enthusiast by the name of Roy Wicklund. I'm sure some of you know him, but others who aren't bmw guys probably do not. Anyways he's a nice guy and recently sold me some stuff...
            Parts car for $300;

            Style 5's in m i n t condition, $400 with tires;

            Found that the parts car had bilstein's with h&r's all around. Score.

            Managed to get the front strut assembly completely off, but for some reason the rears (with the lower nut and all three upper nuts taken off) will not come off. Cool.

            Helpful hints would be appreciated, but I'm also going to question the wizards of mye28.
            And that's where I'm at now. Some pics of the driveway work space/house.

              your e28 looks clean dude!
              those shocks should come loose, tried a hammer? pretty common for old bimmers.
              is a little tube on the bottom of the shock that goes into the hub.

                Updates;
                I managed to get the suspension off of the parts cars, and onto mine. Also tucked the bumpers...

                Then, I decided to follow ChubbyChowders lead and built a wooden roof rack.

                I drilled holes in some ratty old "Terza" bars, and stained/polyed some 1x3's in pecan gloss. I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome, especially because it somewhat hides the clear coat fading on my roof. I'd like to hear your opinions, but I don't think it's going anywhere for the time being.

                Before I did the roof rack, I had a friend make me a wooden shift knob in his wood shop class. The stain came out a little darker than we expected, but I might refinish it with the stain I have left from the roof rack. (sorry for the blown out, over exposed image. It was hard to get a good shot this morning.)

                Somewhat refinished a valve cover;

                And this is how the car sits as of 25 minutes ago. I know it's not low, and it isn't low enough for me either. But I'm very hesitant to cut my springs. You guys will have to convince me idk

                Thanks for looking!

                        Just wondering if this is the one on CL for 6500 with a reconstruction title. What happened?
                        Just lower it.

                          Thanks guys and yeah, this has a reconstructed title because of a flood in the nineties.
