  • Turbocharged Fun Box - 1998 Volvo S70 T5M

Just picked up my 1998 Volvo S70 T5M. Looked pretty clean at the time of purchase but as I recently discovered, it needs A LOT of work. I'm debating on keeping it seeing as it will be my daily driver. I would love to have this car seeing as it is the extremely rare 5-speed model, but I need something reliable and I don't have time to work on it myself. It's a shame because I was just about to order coilovers and some other goodies. Now I have to wait to see about the repairs.

Biggest issues are that it needs a new A/C compressor, needs new timing belt, motor mounts are sagging, and the rear crankshaft seal is leaking oil . Also has several other minor issues that I can fix myself.

Those are easy repairs. Keep the car you'll keep kicking yourself if you let it go. timing isnt hard to do yourself. ac compressor is easy as well. get all those parts from the jy. takes a day to do most of the things on your list.

I'm gonna do my best to try to keep it. I just don't want to have continuously repair my dd.

Not for sale right now. Look around craigslist though, I recently went to see a V70 T5M in CT for super cheap. Body was shit but engine and tranny seemed good.

this. but as already said most of the repairs can be completed in a day/weekend.

True but I work and go to school so finding the time for repairs is difficult. Especially ones that take more than a day.

Final verdict, I'm keeping this beast. Couldn't get rid of something so rare. It's got issues but I will manage. And look! Goodies have already started arriving, got my spoiler in today for +10HP . Needs paint which should arrive soon. Also managed to find a pic of my old S70.

I bet you could of had your motor mounts swapped out in the time it took to paint those wheels.

Nice car, Get the important things fixed before spending too much money on blingy items.

Haha, when I think back on how badly I painted those wheels I want to cry. Thankfully my painting skills have increased dramatically over the years.

Had to get the spoiler though, looking at it without the spoiler was giving me a headache. Any future purchases will be put towards fixing mechanical issues.

                          Is that a 2.3L or 2.4L?

2.3L. I'm pretty sure all the T5 models have the 2.3 and the GT, GLT, and base model sedan use the 2.4L
