  • KickassTuning E46 318i project

    Hi

Just joined the forum and thought it would be nice to show you my new project.
    I'm located in Estonia, Tallinn.

First of all I'd like to introduce my vehicle history.

When I was 14 I started with scooters and had quite many of them, the most I'm proud of this, which even won some prizes in shows:

After this I had Cagiva Mito 125 bike and then at age of 18 got my first car, Lexus GS300 2001. It was stock, I only changed exhaust system to improve sound, but I sold it before doing more changes.

Then moved on 2003 Audi A8 4.2, after this Audi A4 Cabrio which I still have.

First real project car was my grandmas old Volvo 360, if maybe someone is intrested seeing more photos about this build then http://fotoalbum.ee/photos/KickassT/sets/1318553

After changing the Volvo, I got this BMW E46 318i sedan 1998, manual transmission.
It's quite blank, only optional extra from factory is automatic climate.
I still don't have good shots of car right now, because it's winter here, all snowy and wet.
It has few scratches, rust and warning lights on, but soon it all will be changed.

Soon after buying the E46 i remembered that I have seen some intresting wheels in one friend's garage, took phone call and after few days i brought new wheels for E46.

    OZ Futura
    8.5x18'' ET13
    10x18'' ET19
They are in quite good condition but still I polish the lips and paint all the other stuff...

After first try I realized that ET is quite awesome and therefore I need to change wheel arches.

I have been using BMW for daily wintercar so I haven't made any changes to it yet, but now its time to start the build.

Got some cheap coilovers, hope they do the work for me...

Because old one is sooooo rusty...

    Bought Nankang NSII for OZ
    215/35 R18
    225/35 R18

Just one fancy pic of wheels in home garage

In few days I move car to garage where building starts.
Then I have to order new bumpers and lights.

Thats all for now but I'll post pics of progress ass soon as something changes.

      Long time no see...

      Car in its new home...

Then it all begun... Started installing coils

      And tried wheels on

      Stock < vs > coilover

Friend made me a present, he found one useless poster from his dad company and decided to bring it to our garage, she now looks after us...

Im still thinking what should i do with interior but now it looks quite race car

And we did some washing, all wheel arches and shitty places are now clean.

After washing I decided to cover all the car with metal dust.
Trying to build M3 style hood

Its still work in progress but i hope that it turns out just fine.

Its schooltime again, right time to escape into garage.

        Lips being polished...

        Girlfriend is helping me out...

        Finished wheels

Latest news... dropped rear axle to remove some rust...

Hopefully car will be ready in spring 2014 so I'm trying to speed up the building process...

Love it. How did you get the car that high on cinder blocks? A little sketch for my tastes but that's awesome. hahaha.

Its been quite a while from last post...

I wanted to try futuras, so i bolted them on my daily for one day.

                  And now E46...

Removed rust and other filth underneath the car

Then removed that thingy for spare wheel because i need space for exhaust.

Then moved on to hood welding... I was really scared to start this because i have never done something like that...

I hope i turns out ok, after rust stop treatment i left hood and moved on to wheel arches. When all arches are ready then i start putting filler on and so on...

I decided to use these puzzle pieces because i thought i wont be able to bend whole arch from one piece with my primitive knowledge... maybe on next project i use new and better technique.

And if someone is interested then front arches are 20mm wider and rears will be 26mm wider than original.

I think that this spring (2014) new engine does not fit in the build budget but im planning engine swap in autumn or next winter.
I think 3l 170kw or 4.4 v8 would be okay, but its too soon to talk about it...
