Here is the first a rough routing of the exhaust. It will definitely change to clear the master cylinder and the drivers feet, but more or less, its what we're shooting for.

We got a lot done today! Stripped the rest of the frame, got it in a rust resistant coat of paint, and rebuilt most of the suspension stuff. We also built most of the new firewall and the flange where the removable trans-cover mates to.

This is some pretty incredible stuff. I guy called Nick Mann over he's in the UK uses a small gas turbine engine to keep the turbo of his hillclimb car spooled up constantly, the guy's a genius.

Jesus Christ. 53,000 RPM. Who's going to be the daredevil to first start the thing.

I will of course! We will get the turbine specialist to start it first and check it over, but it's possible we all will drive it around.

We did a torsion test earlier this week to see how much stiffer we could get the frame to deal with the torque of the turbine. We tested it first, unmodified, then did it again after boxing the center section. We achieved 40% less deflection with the boxing.

We also clearanced the trunk to fit the 22 gal fuel cell.

Cut some 5052 for the interior paneling

We also had to move the brake to the clutch position to clear the much larger firewall.

Anderson Paint also powder coated our wheels for free which are 13"x6" TR7 wheels that I removed from my car for the project. They blasted and coated them in 1 day, thanks Anderson!

Did a final test fit of the turbine for mounts. The speed holed brace is to take the place of the piston engine, and take some of the load off the strut towers.

                          Made some sleeved brackets..

...And tacked them on the frame. we also drilled and welded in sleeves for the front bolts, but you all know what that looks like.

Cleaning up for the day. We'll get more done tomorrow, stay tuned!

Awesome. Thanks for posting this on here.

The only experience I have with turbines is with boats, and they have all had huge throttle lag. Have they done something to work around this yet or is it still a problem?

It is still a problem. Really, turbines like to run at steady-state, and are very efficient in that condition. For the turbine le mans cars, the driver had to spool up the turbine as he was in a corner for a good 4 seconds.

i love the idea of putting the turbine in and all but i hope to see some sort of stance on this build in the future
