I've debated on how to best handle the fittings. As you know, the rear spring cups on the W124 are in kind of an awkward spot to run an air line to from the top. If you draw a straight line along the center of the spring upwards, it comes into the trunk right about the middle of the unibody frame rail. You could exit the frame rail into either the spare tire well or into the little sunken pockets on either side of the trunk, but I'm not sure how badly I want to punch holes in the frame.

Right now, my rear air lines and wiring enter the wheel well right about where the rear seat bulkhead is, and they're zip-tied away from the tire. I have a PTC right-angle fitting from Bag Riders (this one: link) and the air lines connect through a hole in my prototype spring cup. Obviously the hole has a rubber grommet to protect the line from abrasion.

In the front, the situation is obviously simpler, since the spring cups have nice exposed holes at the top you can run an air line through.

I'm curious about your thoughts on the air lines entering from the side, and why that concerns you, since I haven't reached a conclusion on how the rear is going to work on my final design.
the fitting entered from the side and ended in the spare wheel trough. it concerns me because i had an serious problem... when was no air in the bags, they pushed against the fitting. so after some time the air lines slipped out. while i was driving. several times. so please test whether the distance ranges!

do you use the same bags in the front and rear? the w201 had some "rolling bags" in the front. but they need 10-12 bar (145-175 psi)! i do not want that.

On the air ride brackets: they looks very similar to what I have being made up right now. Do the adapter cups have anything to keep them from rotating, or did your friend find this to not be an issue?

Really looking forward to seeing your ride on air!
the picture of the adapters was taken right after the removement. and one of them rotated (the left one on the picture) because on bolt was missing. if you have 2 bolts, it can't rotate in my opinion. there are numerous opportunities for improvement.

    time for an update.

i decided to leave my car over the winter in my hometown at a friends workshop. my new winter golf mk II in the mirror and the sun on the german autobahn.

after the last stop at the petrol station the shock - the car doesnt start anymore. trailertime for the last 90 km. the engine is gone.

that's by the way the wintergolf. but i sold him after lowering, some small repairs and a little wheel fitment. for the winter, i wanted a rwd car.

and i found some. a cheap w201 with a rare color combination. that should be okay.

some issues but now tüv approved.

a friend heard about my engine issues with the w124 and made me an offer. i should disassemble his car to take the engine and the airride. all other parts should I sell for him. it's a w201 2.6 and it was his ride some years ago. maybe the first w201 with an proper airride system in europe. if you ask why disassembling: no one should drive the car anymore. it was his baby and no one except me should get it.

i took the chance and gave the little buddy a last ride with some of his friends made of german steel.

then we have deducted the blue film and tried my 2013 wheels on the car because the paintjob is the same like mine.

now it's time to rebuild the air suspension to fit into my w124. i really thank my friend for this chance, to get a proper setup with a minimum amount of money.

i miss the summer. but i wish everybody happy wintertimes!

it's a long way, there's more to come! hope you enjoy the thread!
