  • Shakotan ln40

Ive had this ute/pickup/truck ect ect for about 8 months now.

Its a 1980 LN40 Toyota Hilux 2x4 2.2L diesel. Base model for Australia.
*person/s involved in this build may/not be Australian...

I got it given to me from some elderly friends who where moving into a retirement home. Cant complain about that..

I had many, many idea's as to what i wanted to do and what style i wasnted to go with.
In the end, my priorities changed around (again) and it ended up sitting around for 8 months.

Last week i dragged it into the shed and started work.
The style in mind? Shakotan. Low. Japanese 80/90's style.

This is not going to be a quick build (are they ever?!) but i need to sell my 2011 impreza, so ill be getting it going and on the road first.

Then ill slowly do things to it. Money permitting.

    Anyway. Enough talk.

More mobile phone pictures (no im not sorry )

          Thanks! .

Its so hard finding parts for these! Every wrecker I've been to just has 2005+ hilux parts.
Most of these old hiluxs were farm vehicles which still remain in paddocks .

I'm loving your build though! Love the front under spoiler! :3

Was wriggling the gearbox off the spline and it dropped on my hand, jamming it between the rear mount...

Next task is to wire-wheel the chassis do I can apply underguard coating.

                  Before wire wheel clean.

                  After.

                  Texture black paint .

Ordered caliper rebuild kit to give these bad boys a refresh

                    Bit of an update guys!
Got some stuff done today while i was waiting for parts.

Got some 88+ lower control arms and put them on. But waiting for new upper ball joints to finish it off..

Spent a few hours wire wheeling parts to bare metal then painting them (wrinkle black for most things... I have a new addiction..).
Will have more "after" photos tomorrow.

Then spent another 3 hours cleaning the engine bay up.

                    Photo timmeeee!!

                    Cleaned the tank up.

Best tool for restoring stuff. But i swear 90% of the metal wires end up in my clothes and/or face :/.

First coat of wrinkle paint (yet to dry/wrinkle in the photo).

                    Filler neck before/after.

                    Cleaned up the drum brakes.

Rocker cover. You can see what it looks like cleaned to the right where i started.

Before and after of the LHS engine bay.

Before of the RHS of the engine bay.

                    Semi-finished LHS engine bay..

An Australian car enthusiasts worst nighmare.. Redback.

Next to a 12mm deep drive socket.

Ill be doing heaps more tomorrow and taking plenty of photos! .

Brake cleaner and a lighter do very well against redbacks....

Nice progress on the lux, got any wheels in mind for it?
