This looks like alot of fun. I like the flares. Interested in seeing what becomes of this.

Good job on the suitcase sub. Looks like you'll be giving it the love it deserves. Do you think you'll end up painting it?

That is how it came it was hit on the pass side before I wish I had the dual chamber but I don't think this car ever had them because the harness doesn't have the extra plugs for the dual chambers

started a topic A different kind of GTI

    A different kind of GTI

so after lurking on here and watching all these awesome builds i decided i want to make my own thread. haven't really got pics of everything ive done to the car but ill start with the oldest pic i have and go from there.

to start it is a mk3 2.0 gti with an auto trans -__- yes i know auto.

the first night i bought it. didnt know exactly what color it was yet because it was dark out.
it was missing the fog inserts of course, rub skirts and many other things i didnt find yet.

i bought it off a girl who didnt take care of it at all, this being my first car it was the dirtiest thing ive seen in my life! i remember vacuuming the carpet and it smelling like puke, think the PO partied too hard.

    while cleaning it up

well the car is not a stock color. the PO bought it saying it just needed to be painted again because the paint was peeling away, and their daughter the owner of the car wanted it black again but her mom told the guy who painted it to put purple in it. so he did. they put purple metallic threw out the paint, i ***** it! then to add on they painted her name into the door with a lighter purple. and to also the GTI emblem in the back too.

you can sorta see her name here in the drivers door.

    and the emblem

i went junk yard picking for most of the parts scored some rub skirts, i needed a lower glove box and found of them, some little other things like little switches and things like that.

then a few months later the transmission gave out. it took about two months of deciding whether to sell it or fix it. told my dad to let me swap it to manual but he said no because well he was paying for all these things to the car right now. so he took the car to a few shops none knowing what to do with it then he took it to a shop in downtown phx they took it apart and gave up. i was pretty pissed seeing it come home on a trailer in parts with no running gear in it. i tried to fix the tranny myself buy changing out the solenoids and cleaning the valve body but no go. till we scored a tranny at a yard put it in and well still automatic

then i scored a magnaflow on CL for 30$ and had a friend weld it up with 2.25 piping from the cat all the way back into the muffler.

well since i was keeping the car it was time to make it look good started with the headliner i really liked how the new gti's come with the plaid in the seats so i found some material at walmart that sorta matched it and went at it.

    this was the result.

(this is a more recent pic)

then i polished the intake manifold

THEN came some LOWS with some purple calibers

and i was now on my search for rims took a long time till i found some.in the mean time i was doing little things to improve the looks of the car. like spraying the top of the tails with red VHT

    also did this

i saw this passat wagon online with the false floor and the luggage subwoofer so i wanted my own

    15" sub never too big!

in the process of cutting the false floor i took a chunk out of my thumb on the table saw wont post pics of that

And here shortly after i found these

off to the tire shop! the guy there was like dude do you race this thing!! because the tires that came on two of the wheels where gone showing wires. im like no man Autotragic

put in some audi a4 chrome door pulls

pics of the wheels and spacers on the back.

vw emblem to cover up the PO's name
then the Volvo lip had to bolt it to the bottom of the original one because due the car being hit they bought a aftermarket bumper with a integrated lip so this will do

    the french ecodes where made.

the most recent update to the car is MK2 GLI fender flares.

idk if i like them thou...
    two last pictures for now

next things in store for the car will be some wider wheels for more low i need also to buy a grill for it, then the interior needs an update. starting with the seats, steering wheel, and headliner. hope you guys enjoyed!
