  • The Fury formally known as the Green Machine

I figured I already have a build thread up for my Camaro SS, but this is my other project I've been working on.

So, last summer I scoured craigslist for a cheap project as I'm a full time student at ISU and found this '68 Plymouth Fury III with 32k original miles on it for cheap and scooped it up. I'm going for a hybrid between rat rod/hot rod with the car. It has the small block 318 5.2 L Hemi in it with 3 speed automatic that runs good. We called it the green machine when I first got it because it's triple green as you can see from the pictures.

    Already done:
    Painted car
    Dyed top
    Mexican blanket seat treatment

    Next:
    Paint steelies
    lower car
Pop rivet metal over the rust holes
    Straight pipe exhaust
A couple of the rat-rod forum go-ers said I should also paint the chrome bumpers/grill black.

    Any suggestions are welcome, thanks

When I first got it, it had the original bias ply whitewalls still on it, went and got these tires put on and took off the stock rally hubcaps: Lots of green

Then I started prep work and painting it:

    And how it sits now:

Such a massive piece of metal I do wanna see more. I like black theme for the bumper, but you could also do brushed metal.
I would've done army green instead of black, to keep a bit of that green monster theme

I seriously thought about doing the army green and doing the military stencils like the jeeps. I'm still thinking about doing the white star stencil on the doors or something different like a pirate skull.

Also not quite sure what color to paint the steelies. The typical red or I was thinking a cream color or matte white.

i'd keep the chrome if its in a good shape. if its rough an pitted, maybe a brushed finish like previously suggested. or if you decide to go creme or matte white with the wheels, possibly color match. black bumpers might be a little overwhelming on a black car.

The chrome is actually in really good shape. The car was actually garaged for almost 30 years undriven.

I thought about using plastidip on the bumpers to see how it'd look.

You could almost do a 'Smokin Aces' type Pontiac too.

Haha I forgot about that car, they are very similar in structure. I believe they even use the same headlight setup.

I thought about doing the P-51 shark mouth as well

Will be checking often on this build.
                    Those lines, they're gorgeous.

2 new pictures to add to the build.

Here's a picture of the dirty old motor:

And one of my new seat cover!

So after seeing this picture a week or so ago I've been thinking about changing some stuff up on the fury and did a couple quick photoshops to show:

Here is the car that gave me the idea:

                        And my shops:

This build has came to a screeching end.

I had the car for sale for a while and someone just bought it.
