Dumping my girlfriend's Outback

Ended up going with raceland's option for the 2008+ WRX. Decided against more expensive legacy or outback coils since this car will never, ever see the kind of driving that warrants expensive coilovers. I've done extensive amounts of research and before ordering I was like 85% sure they would fit with some modification.
1. Drill new bolt pattern into each front strut tower. I could just use the factory tophats, but then I'd lose my camber adjustment and that is no bueno. The spacing of the triangular bolts is only off by maybe 12mm.
2. Drill new bolt pattern into rear strut towers, the wrx tophats use a wider spaced two bolt tophat.
3. Drill out the steel sleeve in the lower bushing on the wrx strut to accept the larger outback bolt.
And aside from that, everything is plug and play!
I didn't get to do them yesterday, I was gonna do it on jackstands behind whatever my dad was working on in the shop that day, but that turned out to be an extended cab, 8ft bed f350 so that wasn't happening.
We're definitely, definitely doing them tomorrow though, we'll get some pics spun all the way down as well as some pics test fitting the new wheels. The kid came through about the replacement wheel and he's gonna be buying me a new wheel soon. Our pokeball centercap stickers came in as well, and I can finally get the headliner back into her car.

She's low
Finally got around to installing the coilovers today. First thing I had to tackle was drilling new holes in the strut towers because the 08+ wrx uses a different spacing and position for their tophats. It was really easy, actually.
Used a vernier caliper to get the right spacing, then used it like a compass to scratch an arc in the paint and drilled at the intersection of each arc.
Aside from that the lower flange bolts right up, same with the abs wire bracket and the brake hose bracket so that was a plus. I was under the assumption I would use zipties to hold them on.
Here's how it sat with the front coils in and the rears still stock. Had some hellish rake xD
For the next step, my plan was to drill new holes in the rear strut towers to accommodate for the wider spaced tophat. My plans were foiled when I realized I couldn't move the front bolt hole further forward, so I had to come up with a new idea.
First step of the new idea was to press the studs out of the new tophats.
Then use the drill press to drill two closer together holes to match up with what's on the car, press the studs into the new hole, and they bolt right up!
I also had to drill out the steel sleeve in the bushing that connects to the rear spindles but I don't have pictures of that. Just a drill press, lots of cutting oil, and time.
And after a long night, here's the finished product! I know, the picture is shit but it's like 15 degrees out and I finished at like 11:00.
Good pics coming tomorrow! As well as locking the collars on the rear struts like I forgot to do in my hurry to get out of the shop >.> Still has tons of clearance under the car, fronts can go at least another 2" lower, and the rears can probably go another inch. Until spring it'll be riding at this height, though.

Here's some better pictures
Will be going lower in the front, the new wheels and tires will sit the whole car 3/4" lower, and I'll have more clearance in the front fenders to lower the coils another 3/4" with a little pull on the front fenders.
Tucking a solid 2" of tire in the rear without a rolled lip or rubbing, and I've got some hellish camber until I make the upper control arms adjustable.
I'm really happy with the adjustability of these. I've still got preload on the springs when unsprung, And they're not even spun that far down in the front mounts, I can still easily go another 1" lower on the front without losing any shock travel.

And the bonus is it still has a ton of clearance underneath!

Brought the front down 1/4", and the springs have settled quite a bit all the way around. Rubs the inner fenders in tight corners, just haven't taken them out yet. I've still gotta make adjustable control arms in the rear and take out the subframe spacers to fix the awful alignment. Rides really nice though. I'm really happy with how it looks, tucking so much tire in the back. Gonna look great with those wheels and some more low in the front.

Here's a bit nicer of a picture in a parking garage.

Test fitting the wheels, front will come down another 3/4" in the summer when the fenders are pulled and the roads are smoother. Definitely needs spacers, I'll use washers at some point to figure out what size to get. I'm glad I went with 17's. I can get so much drop out of it now and the wheels will clear the fenders and we can be low enough to the point of dragging the short little plastic mudflaps.

I'm so glad you guys decided to go thru with this. Looks pretty good so far. Interior color isn't working so good tho, maybe some black carpet dye, or even tan to spruce it up. Also your in for a world of hurt with that headliner, I do upholstery for a living and rule #1 is never cover anything unless the material is wide enough. It's never gonna look right. Find something you like that is wide enough and have another go at it!
