  • '94 turbobrick with some wheels

So.. I have been lurking off and on here for a while now, but I've finally decided to make a thread about what I'm doing in the garage.

    Things to do
    [x] Renovate the wheels.
    - Front 17x8 on 195/40
    - Rear 17x9.75 on 235/40
    [x] Make them fit nice
    [x] Lower it
    [x] Build coilovers
    [] Fit the coilovers
    [] Lower it more?
    [] Have fun

    History

The car is a 945 Turbo, M90 gearbox and so on.
When I bought it three or four years ago, it was basically an offroad wagon.

Since then I've fitted lowering springs in the back, and cut of a few laps on the front.
After that, I got a 16T turbo from the 850R and built a 3" exhaust for it and added some bigger injectors. And that's pretty much it.
It rides good right now, but I'm not satisfied. I need more!
And it needs to look better and be lower.

Wheel-rebuild begins in the next post

So, lets start with the wheels.

I was actually on the phone with the owner of a set of BBS Challenge when I found these on a local buy-and-sell site.
I changed my mind, thanked him and hung up. Called the other guy and the next day I was on my way to pick these up.

They are Work VS-S5 measuring 17x8". I was suprised that they were 5/108 and fitted bolt on, didn't know they made wheels with the pattern.
It doesn't look like they have been welded and redrilled..

Correct text, is above the picture.

A friend took of the tyres

    Gave them a wash

    Seem to fit really good.
At first, I was thinking about running spacers in the rear, but a friend talked me into widen them to 17x11 insted.
I have the room for it, so why not?

I was missing some tools to tear them apart tonight, so that's the first thing I'll be buying and doing tomorrow.

    See you then!

So, another day in the garage.

I've lifted up the axels with a wheel on and done some more measuring.
It might be tricky to fit 17x11" in the rear, so I might go with 17x10" or x10.5" insted.

Up front, they seem to fit sort-of well, I've got 25mm spacers mounted now, and they pop out just a little bit, but they clear everything on the inside.
So, rolling fenders is added to the list. (It should be there from the begining really, but.. meh)
Furthermore, I've pulled all four wheels apart and they are ready to go to paint next week, if my painter
has the time. Lips will be ordered once I know exactly what I want.

I've also started to make a blueprint-ish-painting for my front suspension. I might end up using an Ebay-set of coilover-sleeves for the Golf MK2/3, if they are match with size.
If not, I guess I have to fire up the ye'ol lathe and make me some threaded pipes, get some coils and they should be good-to-go.

Let's have some pictures! (Don't have any picture with the wheels in their proper place, be patient.)

              Flying volvo anyone?

Without anything pushing up the wheel + 25mm spacers.
They are about 1-2cm further inside once the wheel is in it's correct place.
So, theoretically, they should tuck in really nice.

              Pulled apart

              See you next time!

              edit: Scaled down the pictures..

This will be an written update.

I've placed an order of some coil-over sleeves and springs for my front suspension, not sure when it will arrive since a friend of mine whom is in eduaction in USA offered to bring them here for me. ($120 in shipping meeeeh.)

As I said above, centers are ready for paint. I think I've deiced what color their going to be, you'll see that later.

                See you next time!

I'm having communication issues with the company that was supposed to make my new outerlips.
I've contanced another company to see if they can make a pair for me.
We'll see how it turns out.. It would be said if I couldnt widen these as planned..

Work themselves could only identify the wheels, they didn't have other information to give. So I guess that a dead-end.

I have yet to order tyres.
I think I will be using 195/40 up front

and 235/40 back (or 195/40, if I cant get a hold of new lips..)

On the bright side, the centers are going in for paint next week. So I will be polishing two lips and rebuilding two of the wheels next weekend.

And everything for the coilover rebuild has arrived to my friend in Ohio, so I will be seeing him and my parts soon.
                    Then there will be pictures!

Thanks! T5s awesome! A buddy of mine just got done rebuilding his T5, aiming to 600hp.
Hopefully you will be happy to see the "monstrous" 17s in 9.75" in 10/11"!

                        I got pictures!

Got my parts for my suspension rebuild delivered today, so will start with this as soon as I recover from ther worst cold in history.
My centers are in for paint, paints going to be California Gold. I think it will look nice with the color of the car.

I got ahold of Image Wheels in the UK, they could only make me 3.75" lips, so I will be having 9.75" rear wheels. Its alot less what I had in mind from the begining.
But Image was the only company that could make me the lips, so I will have to go with that. Nevertheless, I am happy about getting them.

I've set a goal to have the wheels and suspension done before 28 march, since I will be going to Bilsport Performance and Custom Car Show (to everyone who knows what that is)

Your wheels are genuine 5x108 for sure. I know a set on Alfa Romeo 166 as well.

You would probably upgrade the looks on the wheels if You fit custom step lips instead of flat lips.
