Got the driveshaft out in an hour and off to the shop.

Sadly the guy who pressed the axle bearings on did it wrong. So now I have to take it back apart for the millionth time and do it myself tomorrow.

Trying to get the daily running. Throwing a code for o2 sensor, and isnt starting. Will that actually make it not start?? It cranks but wont start.

Waiting on air beam for the front of the notchback still, guy is making me nervous its been 3 months. And he is being difficult to contact and very little communication last month.
Something is holding the axle bearings from sliding on the whole way. A nick or bur, so I have to sand the axle shaft tomorrow after work.

Any aircooled or specifically type3 people know anything about my problem with my axle bearing.

Its completely flush with the lip it sits against but doesnt go into the housing enough to put the cap over it and seal it up.

Bearing is supposed to be half in this axle shaft cover and half in the cap.
As you can see there is no gap where its supposed to be pressed up against. Any help is great!

Also another update, guy with my air beam never built or shipped it like promised so I have a dispute to get my money back. And I am on a search for another beam, maybe going with an airkewld beam, and build something for the rear.

Any suggestions for the rear is cool.

Yeah I was told it was done 2 weeks ago and he would ship it, he didnt. Then last week he said he would for sure send it and didnt. 1600 for this damn thing, and I havent received it yet. Not gonna bash the guy the workI have seen was good but apparently not for me.

Probably going to contact airkewld this week.

Let me guess, you got burned by Punchdrunk Customs too...

Airkewld stuff is good. And their site has some excellent tech writeups on building the rear suspension. TheSamba also has some good articles, if you can manage to navigate their search function.

I like that you're not getting too discouraged. Type 3's can be a pain in the ass (and the larger VW scene tends not to be very helpful,) but there is some good info out there if you look hard enough. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this beast!

keep up the good work will be awesome when done.
I'm building a 73 Fastback for my friend, and Chop top Mk2, your build on the Type 3&4 forums has served as inspiration, particularly your tubs! We're only gonna be tucking 17's all the way around though.

Yeah wasnt going to throw him out there but he got me. Hopefully straightening everything out with my bank tomorrow.
Ill definitely look on airkewld for the rear air setup. Not sure what kind of wheel im going to run, but i'm planning on something a little wider.

Yup, Punchdrunk has a lot of people mad at him, he's kind of the pariah of the Type 3 world at this point. Anyway, glad to see you're on the right track now! The beauty of Notchbacks (well, any Type 3, in my opinion) is that the timeless design lends itself to pretty much any build style. Anything you choose for wheels is likely to look awesome!

Yeah I didnt know he would turn out like that. Seemed real legit at first, but my bank returned it all to me. Yeah I cant make my mind up about wheels, too picky.

Had to drop my transmission off at the local aircooled shop to fix the bearing problem. I couldnt figure it out, everything was put in properly. Hopefully have it back tomorrow.
