  • Just another W124 story...

Been lurking here for a while, esp on the w124 builds looking for inspiration for my own w124. So here my story goes,,,

After selling my beloved s13, my wife and i decided to get a bigger car as it was gonna be my daily driver and my toddlers gonna need more room in the car.
So after browsing potential cars, i fell in love with the lines on a 124.
So we decided W124 is gonna be it.

This is gonna be a fast forwarded build, as i was having registration issues in SW a few months ago, thus i can't document the build in real time.
i apologize for the limited crappy phone photos

So bye bye to my 13.

    Hello to my w124
    200E facelifted to E200
    2 liter, 8 valve
bigger displacement models are rare and cars are very expensive in my country.
I paid about 22 grand USD for this car, and i can only drive it for 10 years,
CE are going at 60 grand...
    go figure

motor / gearbox needs to be changed
rims / shocks / springs needs to go

Open the old motor up, nothing could be salvage

So got a new motor, same displacement (changing CC is illegal here) and a new gearbox
got some parts recondition parts from my mech, rear differential (mine was whining), axles, brakes, rotors, swapped my 17" Lorinser with OEM 15"
and try to duct tape my lil bumper accident

    Bumper with White Duct tape

Then i got busy on Ebay and a few online stores.
Got myself a Deep Corn Nardi, with Nardi Personal Adapter.

Got new black face projector headlights, led taillights, s-class grill

Fixed a vaccum leak in my door locking mechanism
    installed a keyless alarm system

Then after surfing on ebay, i bought this, waited for 1 month before it reached my door steps.
    16x7 et35
    16x8 et24
    RS098 & RS023

In goes H&R Springs with Blisten Sports, still testing the pad sizes, and getting the height settled in.
    205 / 55 all round, (beefy, i know)
    Got them fitted,

    Fenders rolled for future plans

Fixed a Wald kit, with the kit being lower then original bumpers, it made my task to go lower a lil bit trickier…
at this height I'm already scrapping the front bumpers a lot,
we have a lot of slopes and humps,, pfft..

    Skirts

    Welding and realign exhaust tips,

    Rears with new exhaust tips,

Leaving the car with the painters,

    Some prep work.
rear chrome trims and grills blacked out
side cladding chrome trims removed and putty flush with body
door handles sprayed, front emblem polished, replace rear emblem

    Just out from the oven
    Color: Mercedes Obisidian Black

    Aux Fan died on me,
New replacement fan, rewired hella horns and fog lights

So this is how the car looks now,,,,
i know, the fronts gaps are obscenely high..
going lower on 16" gonna kill the bumpers,

Car will be lowered moar when these arrive

I need tyre suggestions, nothing too extreme,
      i was thinking 205/45 and 235/40……

Shout outs to projektzwo HWY HNTR AMGwheelwhore Niks freshjive80 Bystrov bobbyjones for your build threads and contribution, and SW for an awesome community

+1, but i would personally go for 195/40 and 215/40

oh, and please replace the uber ugly headlights with oem ones

roads are quite decent here, its the amount of speed bumps, one of the lowest bump, i need to zig zag, everyday everywhere,

look at wheel gap, look at bumper clearance, without any load
not to mention the underground and multi-storey carparks, they put bumps right at the bottom of the slope

215 / 40 for rears? im not planning to tuck in the rears, just flush with the rear fenders, probably drop 1" more in the rears
                    235 / 45 too wide?

Hi, thanks for the shout out! You have done a great job getting your car to where it is now compared to what it used to look like.. Good colour choice! A friend of mine had a E36 AMG coupe with the AMG bodykit that he sprayed the same colour.

Because your front bumper is very low, have you tried looking at 18" alloys instead as these will fill the gap more without you having to drop your car too much? Reason being is because the Wald kit is more rounded so 18s would look better. The OZ's look great with a AMG kit. Theres quite a few Wald 124s on the internet with the proper alloys that will really complete the look of your car.

Like others have mentioned, OEM headlights will look so much better compared to what you have right now. But yeah, great job on the car man!

I run 245/30 tyres rear and 215/40 fronts on the OZ AMG alloys. When the car is lowered, the camber makes it naturally flush with the wheel arches. Just becareful what tyres you go for as the rim protection on each tyre makes it look wider compared to ones without, this will throw your look off.

                        thx mate,
18" are gonna be too heavy for my puny motor.
245/30 oppose to 235/40 or 45 ? trying to fill the wheel gaps
and yea i saw your thread, on the wider tires issue between different brands.
do you have any fitment photos of your current setup?

Here in the UK, we have a lot of speed bumps and they vary in size too. So driving a slammed car can be a challenge! So keeping that in mind, i dont want to go too low.

I found that using 245/30 on the 10J continued the flow from where the rear arch rolls off, the angle of the tyre stretch and where the rim is when there is a natural camber. It makes the rear end of the car look beefy. In some ways, it keeps a nice period look to the car too.

My car right now is having the gearbox rebuilt and refurbished, 5 speed auto. So when i get the car back, ill deffo add some pics.

                            amg OZ Racing

After 1 month of waiting, finally it arrives,,

Sucks part is that 2 of the rims lips were damaged during shipping,

i assume partly due to the half assed box the seller used to shipped the wheels,

Gonna find sometime tmr to get em' fitted

looks really nice mate, restored one of these myself. I really would change your headlights though as it ruins the retro looks
