  • Another friggin e24? seriously?

Yes, unfortunately. Also let it be known that I suck at taking pics. All these will be iPhone quality.
I am new here and hope to become part of whats going on in this community. I am active on r3v and thought this build would suit you guys more so than my usual crowd.
It all started almost 20 years ago. My dad had a beat down, high miles, 250k then, 85 e28 eta that was a hand me down car. What can I say, this is all his fault. I have been hooked ever since. About 6 months after getting my license, a friend of mine told me about this righteous car his Dad just gotten in a trade deal and I had to check it out. When I got there is was the venerable e24. I was blown away by its sex appeal. Then I made the mistake of driving it. Did I mention it was for sale? Going from an eta to a 635csi will make any 16 year old cream. Well cream I did. It could be mine for 8k but at 16 in the early 90s it might as well of been 80k. Dream crushed. But I never forgot.
Life happened and never came across the right e24 when I had the cash or when circumstances were right. Then, one evening sitting on the porch, drinking my Canadian Mist and perusing CL, I came across an interesting ad. One owner Texas car, e24, clean interior, good paint, bad motor. Well, as luck would have it, I had a spare m30 sitting, waiting to go into an e30. A deal was struck and she was mine. This is how she looked.

After getting her home, A buddy and I started to prep the engine bay to swap out the m30. Turns out, the old motor had a bent valve and a broken rocker arm but only 125k miles. This one will get rebuilt and possibly find its way into my e21, maybe.

A quick cleaning and this was the result.

Then I went to the beach and drank a lot of beer.

    Then out with the old

Then I started building my coilovers. I used billys in the rear, and shortened the strut housings one inch to accommodate e30 front struts. I am using universal sleeves and 6" springs. 385 lbs in the front and 325 in the rear. I have a few springs to play with but that is where I am starting.

Then I picked up a couple sets of wheels. 17" Style 32's, can't go wrong with them, and some A.R.E. 16x10s. I am a little concerned that the A.R.E.s will look to small but I am open to opinions.

Today we begin hooking up the harness and cleaning the tank out and getting her running. My buddy is working on that while I dive into the suspension. I will keep you guys posted on whats up.
Here is a teaser for what is next....

I will post some tomorrow it is near dead mint as it can be minus a head unit and a couple minor cracks in the dash.

nice start! the only issue you may find with the 16's is how low you will have to go to achieve the correct look. i wish i could be lower on a smaller tire in my e28, but the roads up here in NY combined with it being my daily don't really allow it for now.

I'd love to see those 16x10's though i think they could look sick!

That is what I am afraid of as well. I figured worst case I will run the style 32's till I come across the right setup, would really like to get 18's or 19's even. Never hurts to have a set of two piece mesh wheels laying around for a BMW guy.

So here is an update on what we got done yesterday. Got the car in the air, awesome wheels off, and rear suspension out. Planned on installing the rear coils but ran into a snag with the top nut on the oem shocks being fine thread and the billys not. Picked up the appropriate nuts this morning on my way to the office so we should have the rears done today. I will get some mock up pics for you guys. Also cleaned up the wheel wells while we were in there. We planned on painting them black but this is what it looked like after some degreaser and pressure washer.

I think we will leave them as is...
Got the wiring harness hooked up and the motor plumbed and did a little cleaning there as well...

You should be fine with the 16x10s. Just run a 205 with a 45 series, or even a 50 if you're an old man.

Super jealous of that e21 as well.

Well, I am kinda old. 35. I was thinking of 205/50 to help fill up some gap I might have with running the 16s. The style 32's will be ran this weekend for the e30 Oktoberfest. I have been following your thread and like what you have done with your e28. My first car that I talked about above was the same color code.

Rears are done. This is without the weight of the car on the suspension. I figure that I will be tucking wheel once the car is off the jack stands.
