    AW11 Build: The Slampiece

    Intro
Wedep, longtime lurker here stepping out of the shadows. I’ve been admiring all the awesome builds on here so I decided I’d share my own, though I don't have a welder or a paint booth so I hesitate to call it a "build". Partway through the project I almost scrapped this thing to buy a bimmer, but then I realized that’s what everyone does… plus, why scrap when you can scrape? Decided I'd give the car a chance and hopefully lend an unloved model some style. The goal is a twisties-hunter and track bitch, but when it’s not on active duty it’ll be slammed on some choice wheels. I have plans that might turn a few heads in the MR2 community as well as this site if the car can hold my interest for a couple of years. But for now, go easy on me, I’m a novice/poor college kid

    Background:
A while back back I wanted to get into cars but all I had was a 40k original mile ’98 EK Civic that I had no intention of modifying. I was looking for something with an engine and driving wheels in the right places. So I snagged this tired old Japanese doorstop with 213k for <$1000, and a project began.

    PART THE FIRST: The Swap
Original motor was tired and leaky with a host of sketchy electrical problems. 112hp out the factory doors, but it was clear that at least a handful of ponies had left the stable. This would not do.

Also took some time to remedy 25 years of maintenance neglect. Started with a new fuel pump

Engine in the middle + radiator in the front = lots of coolant lines. These all got replaced

If you have air conditioning in the Pacific Northwest, you think too highly of yourself. Buhbye.

    New lump

Everyone loves a tranny This C56 box came out of a Corolla, which meant drilling the case and flipping the selector shaft.

    The wedding

    Aaaand in.

Currently working on getting it to idle. After that I can make the bay look a little more civilized

    Here’s how she sits now.

But where’s the suspension, you ask?

    More coming soon!
