I always really liked the flip key design too, I think it's awesome.Originally posted by 244Brick View PostSweet, It's something about flip keys i love!. Plus when ppl look at your keys they don't know its for an e30
Thanks man! I'll do my best to keep this thing clean and simple. Also, I totally agree, something about the plastic bumpers really does it for me. I was originally a fan of the small tail lights, but the larger ones are growing on me. Once I make them all red, I think they'll look a lot betterOriginally posted by MartinsElerts View PostThere is something about those last E30 coupe's,
They look so good
Don't know what it is though.
You have done such a good job with the 2002, and I think that this E30 is in good hands.
Can't wait to see this one done.

How many cars do you have now? good thing you have that huge outdoor garage!
Where did you pickup the keys+alarm combo? Should be pretty sweet and easy to use.
next mod is a 1.8t swap

I have 5 cars at the moment, 3 of which will be sold ASAP. There is no reason to have this many cars haha. I just want my two bimmers and I'll be a happy boyOriginally posted by TeckniX View PostHow many cars do you have now? good thing you have that huge outdoor garage!

My MK1 is pretty much sold, have a guy who is super set on buying it within the next 2 weeks. Really hope that works out.
My Civic is up for sale and I have a few people interested, so hopefully that sells soon as well.
I also have a 1997 Ford Aerostar that I bought off my dad a few years ago haha mainly for hauling purposes. That needs a little bit of work and will be put up for sale very shortly as well.Last edited by CubbyChowder; 10-09-2012, 05:15 PM.

haha thanks, yeah it's definitely not the ballsiest car I've ever owned, but I just love the way it drives. I've heard/read lots of good things about the M42 engines, and I'm pumped I have this as my new DD.Originally posted by FunfGang View Postm42 = God's underpowered gift to mankind. Nice pick up

Small update:
Got the keyless entry all wired up and working tonight. It's so satisfying locking and unlocking it with the fob haha it's the little things that get me.
Had a super stupid moment earlier when I tested it out for the first time. Got everything wired up and wanted to see if it worked. I closed my doors and locked it, locked no problem. Went to unlock it and it didn't work for some reason, that's when my stomach dropped. I managed to lock my only key and my phone in the car haha I felt like such a dumbass. I was just caught up in the moment and eager to try it out. Luckily I managed to fish the key out with some metal wire but I put a small dent in my outer metal pillar area. One more thing to fix before I repaint it. Anyways, I got it unlocked, fixed the wiring and cleaned everything up. I'm super pumped on the key fobs, although they feel a little cheaper than the MKIV VW ones that I'm used to. Regardless, rad kit and easy install! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

My new odometer gears from Garagistic came in the mail:

So I got to work, removed the instrument cluster:

Took it apart:

Removed the speedometer assembly:

Those are the gears that are getting replaced:

Gear cover off:

Old soft gears removed (brass bushing hasn't been removed yet in this picture):

New gears installed (the original bottom green one is ok to reuse apparently because a new one isn't included in the kit):

Gear cover back on:

And all back together! Glad to have a working odometer:

haha it's $20 in parts and a pretty easy fix, you'd have no problem doing it yourself. Honestly the hardest part of the whole job is getting the cluster out, which isn't even that bad. You just have to use a little more force than you're comfortable using.Originally posted by AMGwheelwhore View PostNice come fix mine next lol cant wait to see what you do with this

If you look at the picture of my new gears installed, you'll notice that there is one gear which is a lot smaller than the rest, off to the very right. That gear had broken apart completely and fallen down into a dark abyss never to be seen again, so they definitely needed to be replaced. Plus the old gears were really soft and broke apart very easily once I took them off.Originally posted by TeckniX View PostFrom the pics, the gears looked good - Did you notice any slipping or grind marks on them?
Another way to tell that they needed to be replaced was that the odometer didn't work at all before I replaced the gears, and worked perfectly after I replaced them

In the E30, how the gears/odometer was designed, that one little small gear usually breaks almost everytime if you are to reset the odometer while driving. That's why it is so hard to find an e30 with a working odometer as well as knowing how many miles are on you e30. I have never known how many miles are on any of the 5 e30s ive owned.Originally posted by TeckniX View PostFrom the pics, the gears looked good - Did you notice any slipping or grind marks on them?
