  • Wide Body Volvo 740 Air-Ride Peoples Choice Norway 2012

    Hey.

I'm a man from Norway, I use translate, so it may be the translation is not quite good. =)

    Ok.

I have a Volvo 740 1988 model. I bought it 10 years ago, when it was completely original condition, since it has been made extremely much with it, only the surface of the car that is not touched, the exterior roof. =)

I was 19 years old at the time I bought the car, I was probably a bit big words when I told the seller that this would be a cool car. That I in the year 2012 would take the prize for People's Choice, I had never dreamed.

I have won a number of awards, and it provides a great impetus in the project.

Before I started the car (note, this is not my car it's image, but it is identical)

So now I just post some pictures how the car has changed over the years, and the first refit. =)

    After the First Year.

    New Front:

    Complete after som years Work.

Time to Refresh my old Wheels.

    Of with the Clear Coat.

    New Wheels.

and the wheels do not fit on my car.

The next pictures are the big modifications of the car, so the wheels cold fit. =)

To make space so the Air Bag fit.

How I built the front panels.

    The back door

After 2 years of hard work:

A year later and just before painting.

Finally, the car was painted, and this is the first drive. =)

Time to lower that Car. =)

    Some nice Pics.

Pictures of the engine room, all shiny parts that you see are handmade by me. =)

If you want to see more of the project, take a look at this link, it's in Norwegian, but where do you see more of how I've done it all. =)

"Holy brick, Robin. That thing is really edgy."
Love what you've done to your car.
My 1978 Porsche 924 build thread is quite boring.

I appreciate the work that's gone into building the car but you fitted air and its no lower than when it was static?

I built the car without springs, if you look at this picture here, so is the car with the original lowering springs.

This is after I cut lowering springs in two, throwing one piece, and assemble the other half. =) When I mounted air bags, so the car was as low as this and so I have lowered the air bag kit about 2 inch.

For 2 weeks ago I was built a new air bag front. This winter I will build it again. Aim to get a clearance of 10mm to the front bodywork, so thats that I can lower it about 10mm to the front and rear should I see if I manage to get into 15mm.

Today the car is at this hight.

                VS original

It is not easy to lower these cars so much more, then you have to cut up the rigid body, and when one does not have plates on the car, in Norway it's very strict rules to build the cars.

Airbag in Norway's impossible to get approved by DMV. DMV also controls the roads around the clock.

Thanks for all the great feedback. =)

Not a fan of 740s but the amount of work and this car in general is insane. Great job man.
